While trying to charge some batteries down at the dock I decided to fish close to home to see if the fish were biting and I was pleasantly surprised. It took me a few casts but once I found the right count I was golden on a dock close to the house. I had 18 crappie in less than a half hour. Most were small but a couple over 11 inches. I tried another couple of docks close by and there were some on them too but not in the numbers that the first dock had. I checked the batteries at the dock and they weren't ready so again I went out, this time to check some spots that I hadn't fished since spring. The keepers were there and even some really good ones. They were suspended over deep brush at about a 12 count. Checked some other deep brush in the area but didn't come in contact with any more fish. Ended up trying some bridge pilings and some deep structure but it's too early for those spots yet. I ended up with over 30 in a little over 2 and a half hours. I did see John Falkner for the first time in a long time and we chatted for a minute. He said that he had done well. It was great to get out there for a short productive trip.
