Have any of you ever tried using Shrimp for bait at Strawberry? I've used Chub Meat in the past, but am curious as to how shrimp will work. Frozen chubs minnows always go jellowy on me and don't stay on the hook. Shrimp, on the other hand, would probably hold on better.

Any comments or advice on how best to use Shrimp at Strawberry would be appreciated. I'm heading out there tomorrow morning early.

Also, any Strawberry updates would be nice too. We're going to try to be on the water in the boat by 7am and are hoping for some serious action with the fishies !!

I haven't been up to Strawberry for a few months and am missing it. Has it been getting better recently. I'm sure it's cold enough !!! BRRRRR !!!!

Thanks,
Curtis

Shrimp is a popular bait at Strawberry, especially among some ice anglers. I prefer minnows (less expensive) and rarely have a problem with them getting mushy. I thaw the frozen package out in the lake water and only thaw the package enough to get a few loose from the ice block. I then keep the block of partially and totally frozen minnows in an ice box with Blue Ice on them and use them one at a time during the day, and always returning the unused minnows to the ice box. This keeps them from going mushy on me.

I have used shrimp many times at Strawberry with great success. Just rip off a piece of the shrimp and attach it to a jig. I can usually get 3 to 4 hooks sets out of one medium sized shrimp. I think they hold onto the hook better than a frozen chub & the wife doesn't get as upset with shrimp in the freezer as she does with chubs.

However, I think you can catch bigger fish with the chubs (IMHO).

Don't forget about Crawfish tails. Very much like shrimp and you can get them right from the Berry. I suspect the Bery fish eat them live, so I would think catching some, tearing the tail off, puting on a hook would work. I've never tried them myself as I don't fish the Berry much.
I think they would work though.
