Was just wondering if anyone here has tried bowfishing. Here in Missouri we can only shoot rough fish but it is great sport. We have had 7 inches of rain in the past 28 hours so the creeks and rivers are flooded,. That is a great time to bow fish, will hit it tomorrow when they are managable.

in michigan we are allowed to target Carp with a bow.
in the spring when the carp are spawning the rivers are flooded along with dranage ditches that normaly dont have water. they get loaded with carp and its posible to hit two in one shot from the shore line....
in the summer time, carp swim closer to shore near docks and in the shallows to feed and beat up the fish beds for eggs and other enert materals. at this time you can take them off the docks, wading, and from boat.
It is a different kind of fishing sport of its own...

I havent done it in ten years, and who knows I may again in the future. Ya know, "never say never"...
My old bow and bow reel got lost in a fire, I still have my arrow and picked up a new compound so I am short one bow reel from being back at it.
we have a number of great places in michigan to bow hunt for carp. tho I am not as apt to stand up in a flat bottom any more to let an arrow fly. [shocked] Just dont have the ballance I did in my younger daze.
dont let any one kid ya, it aint no easy sport. wind, moving fish moving boat and waves makes for some chalanging shots.
I have found the colm of early morns and evenings the best time to go after those watter buffalow.. Litty pads and submerged cat tails have sported a few carp as well.
carp are one spooky fish, much the same as a big ol' white tail buck the sightest sound or even haisty movement will spook them off a runnin for the deap.

well if you have gotten another bow you are almost there, reel is lots cheaper than the bow. We also shoot of the bank in flood waters and spawning season. Is carp the only thing legal in Mich. ? There is a new bow fishing magazine that just came out in Sept. strickly on bowfishing. Guess it is out of Missouri. They also have a web site

Ya, carp is the only species we are allowed to target in michigan, we have a number of species that are migritory and are far to easy a mark in shallow streams to be fair game.
meaning its like shooting fish in a barrol.
We do have a spear season, this is during the winter, I would imagin that we could posibly target pike though the ice with a bow if enough intrest was generated.

Have you gone to the respective state boards and posted your questions?

I am trying to get other fisher people interested in bow fishing, this is in its infancy and it will explode.

I woulnd make that claim, it is has been around for more that 50 years that I know of.
Fred Bear used to bowfish back in the 40s and 50s. I used to do it when I was a kid back in the 60s.
Its more of a state regulated thing.
If it were widely excepted you would see more about it everywhere.
This dosnt mean it wont become a fad at some point in time.
Lunkerhunter wasnt suggesting you move your question to another board, It was more of a suggestion that if it is more excepted in your state that you may find more poeple with your intrest on your regeonal state board.
