Went to Henry's for the weekend. Went up Thursday night. It was quite chilly as the temp was 24 when we got there. Got up Friday morning to a temp of 13 degrees. It was snowing and blowing 20mph+. High temp for today would be 16. Stayed in the camper and stayed warn all day other than a drive we took around the lake to check things out. There was ice in the North West corner.

Fiday night was quite cool with an overnight low of 10 degrees and 25mph+ winds that rocked the trailer until 3am. Not sure I want to know the wind chill. Crawled out of bed at 8am to a temp of 12. Looked out side and the wind was finally under 20mph, but there was ice in the bay at the boat ramp and also the south east corner of the lake.

Some friends came up so we headed out to fish. Well, we figured out that at 12 degrees that jets like to freeze up and ice plugs the intakes. After about an hour of warming things up and pulling ice out of the grate, we finally got fishing. I ended up catching 5 for the day with the largest being 4lbs. The high temp today would be 22, but that is still not enough to keep the ice off things. The windows froze with ice as water splashed on them from the waves since the wind picked up again. The reels would freeze also. I would have to brings the poles into the cabin and warm them up so they would work again. There was almost an 1" of ice on the bow of my boat, and the rear was not much better. I had to chisel the down riggers loose since I had put them on to get them out of the way.
We got back to the camper and learned we had a frozen water line. Only place that is not heated is the water tank and pump. Hmmm, wonder why it froze? Note to self. "Fix the non-heated compartment before camping in freezing temps". We listened to the weather report and they were saying 2-3 " and lows in the single digits. Did not sound like fun, so we packed up and headed home Saturday night.

I am thinking if the weather does not warm soon, Henry's will be frozen by this next weekend. Saturday water temp was from 29 at the State boat dock to 36 at the County boat dock in the afternoon. It was another good year at Henry's, but as usual, I still can't break my 5lb limit up there.

Looks Brrrrrrrrr to say the least. A boat would be nice in those cases, but I also hear the lake is soooooo muddy because of the wind, you can't see the tip of the flippers.
Good job on the catch. We are planning one more trip to LAKE X if you are around.

We were up there Saturday...cold and windy! Fishing was pretty good until around 2pm
and it really died down. Wind never really let up-not a surprise on that lake! I posted
one pic of a sweet Brookie I managed to get - male in FULL SPAWNING wardrobe-one of
the most beautiful fresh water fish you can catch! Between 3 of us around 8 fish
caught but 3 were in the 7-8lb range! We also caught another female brookie about the
same size-both around 19"

It was definatly muddy. It looked like chocolate milk at times. We did quite well inspite of the water color. My friends I believe caught 6 or 7 between 3 of them. I think the wind was the worst followed by the temps and ice.

I may have to hit Lake X if the temps stay up. Watching those tubers on Henry's Saturday pretty much gave me the chills all day. I seen people in open boats, no covers go out Friday when the high was 16 and windy and snowing, yuk. Not for me. I like my Full cover and 60-70 degree temps inside.

Sounds like we really did plan the right week cause two days later all H$#@ broke loose as far as weather.

Nice fish Ironrod...got to be around 26" to 27" at that weight? The 28" I caught was really close to the 10lb mark.

Prvrt, we fished Strawberry Sat. 21 degrees on arrival and water in the upper 40's. Hand warmers, and Body Armor topped with fleece then breathables and just fine, but boats could be nice[cool]

Alright, I am going to call up there before I head that way on Tuesday but I am praying for ok weather, I know it is Island Park so not praying for great weather. I will see how it is and I am like flygoddess I have a boat but a toon will keep me warmer because of the work I have to do to fight the wind. So if all goes well I will report on Tuesday or Wednesday.

It is the wind that is the Brrrrr. If you think about it...the water is probably warmer than the air.[cool]

If you go to Idaho Trafic Cameras there is one on Osborn Bridge and where you turn into Henry's state park . The snow is gone . The forcast is for much warmer weather than last Thursday and Friday . Highs near 50 and lows in the 20's . Starting Wedensday I will be fishing and hunting up there for twelve days . When the weather is bad I will be hunting Deer and Wolf . When its good I will be fishing . Curt G.

I use those cameras quite a bit. I have a friend that went up Sunday and said the State Park boat ramp was froze solid. No boats could get in or out there because of the ice. He ended up at the County boat dock. The snow will come and go, and they are forcasting warmer temps for a few days, but I thik the cold will be back.

I see this weekend is in the 50's but the fishing is definitely better when the weather is crappy. LOL
The good news is the water clarity should clear up.

We were there on friday 11am till 2pm saturday. Fished/camped at Wild rose ranch friday night. Fished fron the marina rocks friday afternoon in the hurricane and managed 1-17" cutty on a worm/bobber. 5 hours,1 bite. Woke saturday truck said 7 degrees. Drove to county dock and when I dunked the boat in the trailer stayed frozen to the boat for 3 miutes till it thawed. Never saw that b4.[:p] Anyway, finally got the motor running after switching batteries but then the gear shift was immovable(frozen I assume) for 5-10 minutes. Eventually we got out there and we each caught1 cutty all 17-19". At 1pm we decided we'd had enuf fun and I drove 13 hrs non-stop back to Denver. Man it was cold out there.

Hey prvt I saw you out there -that is one nice boat. We were in an older blue/black Tracker single console. My buddy comented on how warm your boat prolly was!

When do they take the county boat docks out ? There will be some warm days left.

Thanks for the kind words. I remember seeing you guys out there. To bad you did not do better. There were some good hits I had and the ones I did get in the boat were decent fish. Smallest was a brookie around 18".

By the way, it was about 75 degrees in the boat most of the time. When I was younger you might have caught me out there in a row boat or float tube, but not any more.

Well I said that I would report. The whole day was pretty good weather wise. I did manage two fish they are posted below. cuttie was 5.5 guy had a scale but no tape. The brookie was nice size as well. Fishing was pretty slow for sure but it was fun and it was Enuf for me. Oh it idid rain on and off but not bad and there was just a bit of wind all day, No gloves required either so that was nice. a few pics of the lake view as well.
I was fishing near the hatchery the cuttie came from the west adn teh brookie came from teh east. leach patterns with shades of fall colors, I like using burnt orange tails but I caught these fish on burnt orange tail and a black tail. if you ahve any more questions let me know

Very Nice. Some day in the future, when we do retire, It will be in Idaho. I love the idea of only 90 to Henry's from I.F. Like right now, Strawberry is about 70 miles.
Be quite a few more years though...dang it! It would be nice to go there on a whim and not really worry too much about the weather.
