This forum goes through various times when we have people posting reports right and left and other times when posting traffic is down.
My definition of success for this forum is when there is a give and take of information that helps us all be more successful fishermen. I realize there are times when we might not want to spill all the beans or give out too much info on a sensitive water.
There are many of you who are very knowledgeable fishermen/women who help others learn all the time so I am not talking to you.
It just seems like in the last few months there are a lot more takers then givers on this forum. I have been watching the number of views on various posts and have noticed that we now have a huge following. For example last night I posted a report at 11:30 PM by the time I got to work at 8:00 AM my post had been viewed 122 times.
It is a free world and people can obviously come and go as they please. I am just hoping that people will be givers as well as takers. If this trend continues my fear is that many of our long time posters will quit sharing information as they have done in the past and this board will cease to be a good source and information.
Ok I'm done ranting take it for what its worth...

Thank you,
I know for me it has been a little disappointing as I have tried to encourage participation and growth here in the Magic Valley area for a while now.
There still doesn't seem to be the response like our float tube fishing section, where they get together and have group outings and such. In time it may happen.
This summer I went and met a few of the members up at Lake Lowell and really wanted to go to "the narrows" I think thats where the east side guys met. I think we could do the same here in the MV.

Good Point. I'll try to get an ice fishing expedition planned for early in the ice fishing year so people can get together and meet each other.

Good point Windriver. I recently found this site and just joined because I love fishing and appreciate having a forum where I can share my experiences and maybe learn a few things. I fish all the time, everywhere and for everything and look forward to being part of the group.

I try to contribute when ever possible. I usually don't post when I've had a bad fishing day unless someone asks about the area where I was. I figure people don't want to hear of a lousy fishing trip. If someone asks how fishing is at say Cascade and I had just been there then I'll respond with my lousy day. lol
I mostly see a lot of the people from the eastern part of the state on here and I will view a post out of curiosity but usually won't respond cause more than likely I'll never be over there. I wish there were more from the western side and we were starting to make an impact but seems we all have kind of dwindled down again over here. I do wish people would put where they are from on their profile. It gives me an idea of what area they are talking about when they post.
My last tournament of the year was Sept 12th at Owyhee and I haven't been out since then. I won with 5 small bass that barely weighed 5 and a half pounds so I didn't bother posting. Nothing much to brag about.
I don't fish much in the winter. Too cold for me. I'm usually on my computer everyday when I'm home and I check this site out all the time. I hang out on the BBC forums and NASCAR forums too.
I'm hoping if the weather cooperates to head down to Swan Falls with my boat Friday or Saturday for one more trip before the snow flies. If I do I'll post a report good or bad. I promise.

Welcome aboard, Untangler. Where are you from?
I fish mostly for bass and do a lot of bass tournaments over here in the western part of the state. I'm retired and like to fish during the week when the crowds aren't there. I usually only fish weekends during a tournament. Always glad to take someone out fishing anytime so if you're in this area my email is on my profile. BTW that goes for anybody on here. More than glad to meet others and go fishing. I was one of the guys that met at Lake Lowell with Michael and a couple of others.

I am really starting to get into the bass fishing, so I will take you up on that and try to find a time to fish with you when the bass fishing gets good again next spring.
Thanks for contributing. I wasn't trying to give guilt trips or rag on those who contribute when they can. I just think there are a huge number of people out there who are taking what they can (I don't blame them) and not really giving back in any way shape or form. In order for things to really work well we should all be like you and share when we can.
Thanks

I have no problem sharing or helping out when I can. I just don't have that much to offer..lol
I think bass bob put it best most of what I read here is from the other parts of the state and even Utah I think but I am not sure. Awesome reports I just don't ever get that far away....
A lot of it is in terms I still don't understand even the locations I have to google and research and a lot of times I still dont know where it is ... but I read daily. I just don't have much too offer to others unless they ask.

Windriver - it seems to me that part of your job as moderator is to stir things up a little and it worked on me as I joined because of what you wrote.
I grew up along the Snake but now live in Boise like everybody else. Unfortunately I'm not retired like Bassnbob but have a flexible career and an understanding wife and that makes for good fishing. I've flyfished for......many, many years but have recently started to explore other techniques. So far this fall, I've thrown spoons at pinks and silvers on the Skagit River in Washington, thrown flies at rainbows on the Yakima River and the South Fork of the Boise and thrown whatever it took to catch perch at Cascade. There are some big perch in that pond this year. I'd like to try ice fishing, will be chasing after steelhead am trying to arrange a trip to Umatilla, OR where they reportedly catch huge walleye on the Columbia.
I chose my screen name because I've taught a lot of kids how to fish and, as a result, have a little experience at untangling things. I usually fish during the week because crowds & I don't get along and because I can.
Thanks for the welcome.

I know I have been guilty of mostly reading here lately but havent had a lot of chances since this spring to get back out and do much with my new daughter around. I for one this next spring will be far more active once I can strap her in a pack and get back in the water.

I have more time to read than I do to fish. I appreciate the reports people give, though.
Here's my report. Saturday evening we stopped at Carey Lake on the way home from Twin Falls and caught two perch in a cold, hard wind off the boat ramp. After 5 minutes, we left.

I agree we either have alot of "Lurkers" that either dont wanna register, share, or just dont wanna chat. I would love to see some fresh places and fresh ideas.
