Here are some pictures of my 09 elk hunt from the North slope. I shot a spike on Thursday and one other guy in my camp got a spike on opening morning. I also found a track from one of our "northern Coyotes".

Good eats right there! Mine starts Thursday, can't wait.

That track looks more like a medium lion track to me. The wolf tracks I have seen, which I watched the wolves make, were much bigger than that and actually looked quite different. Smaller back pads, with the toes completely together. But who the hell knows, they say it can be very difficult to tell the two apart.

Awesome spike! I love to see velvet in the snow! Good tasting kill there!
I agree with Wyo that you're most likely looking at a young lion track. A few ways to tell is that the back of the pad on a lion typically shows 3 lobes while a dog has 2. A lions track is generally more round on the front of the pad while a dogs is much more pointed. You're GPS is about 4.5" long...a wolf track is atleast that long i believe even up to 5"+, a coyote is about 2.5 to .75.
could you see distinct claws? a cat will rarely leave clawmarks.

Should have that back this weekend. I took a doe on private land monday nite and took to butcher yesterday (Tue) and gonna pepperoni stick the whole doe. . Anyway congrats and we need to go to Newton sometime so I can get you in a musky or two... see ya.....

Congrats. That's a pretty cool picture with him laying in the snow. Bet the freezers almost full now.
