Is there an article or post (I tried searching here) that I can read for some basic information on what type of line to use. I have a $20 spinning reel and am using whatever line came on it. What line is used for what fish, conditions, etc?
I am mainly fishing for bass and panfish here in central VA.
Thanks!

If you type in fishing line at the search engine at the top right corner, it will bring you to others post on line. Everyone seems to have their favorite. I do like p-line, fireline and Yo-Zuri. Each have their place in different styles of fishing.

you want to match your line class, "weight" for the species you are fishing for.
this dosent mean you need to change the line every time you target different species. you can go with a peice of leader line.
with smaller fish you want a smaller line, they can both see and feal it when it comes time for bitting.
Typicaly when I buy a new reel and it comes stocked with line, it is cheep hard line. usualy 8-12 pounds.
for spinning reels you want a line with no memory. Line with memory tents to keep its shape, you will see this in a couple ways. line that has memory retention will look like coils when it is cast out on to the lake. or if it is a line that is manufactured straight it will try to unwind on your spool when you cast.
for pike and other toothy fish I like a hard line, "abrasian ristant will be marked on the package" tho I may have to only use a lenth for leader stock because it tends to want to unravel off my spool.
There is so much for line fish match up, and so many variations and angler preffreance you may be better off asking the spicific question for wich line for the species you want to target.
