[cool][#0000ff]Good brother Wildcat94 has been a devout holy tooner. But, he has been so impressed with the shining example I have set, he decided to convert to tubeology. We took care of the baptism and confirmation this morning at the Church of the 7th Day Angler...Willard Bay South Marina chapel. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Bryce had studied his assigned lessons well, and was fully prepared physically, spiritually and with a new Fat Cat tube. Baptism...by complete immersion from the waist down...was accomplished at about 8 AM. Temperature of the "holy water" was 54 at the beginning of services and had warmed a couple of degrees at the conclusion of worship.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We were blessed with only light breezes, but they kept changing direction so that we never knew how far we should wander from the vestibule (channel). I did not think it advisable to burden a new convert to such a harsh lesson as having to fight back to the ramp against a fearsome gale.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Bryce did stay closer, while I wandered further down the dikes north of the channel entrance. It was well that he did, for verily he did feel the strain of using muscles he had not been using...even in his regular football workouts. His faith and his kitty catching skills enabled him to add a few "converts" to his basket, in spite of limited mobility.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I was guided to move upon the waters unto a favored lair of heathen catfish. There I set about exacting a severe toll upon them. I enticed several to accept the offerings of minnows and pierced their mouths with sharp hooks. I then broke away their fearsome spines and confined them to my basket. I did not chastise any wipers or walleyes, but I was able to fool a couple of catfish into becoming impaled upon the white plastic lures with which I had been trying to summon the other species.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Several cats were deemed more worthy than the others and were simply admonished and then released to rejoin their righteous brethren and sistern. Eight were found to be unworthy of release and were shackled until their eventual dismemberment at the cleaning station. Sadly, they are not likely to profit by the lessons to be learned.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]At the conclusion of services, the new tuber pronounced that he was happy to have made the conversion and that he was most happy with his newfound religion...tubeology. Let us hope he attends services regularly and helps in the ridding of unworthy fishes from as many waters as possible.[/#0000ff]

Sounds like a good day on the water. We let the weather channel fake us out today. Last night it said it was going to be 15 mph winds by 11, so we stayed home. grrrrr. We hit willard on Friday and brother snagged a kitty by the tail. His stomach was HUGE. As we checked on him in the livewell later on, we found that he had spit up his HUGE stomach full of minnows in the livewell lol. His tummy was no longer big. That was the only one we were able to get in the boat. I lost a smallish wiper at the boat and my line broke with another one. Kait didnt come with us,, shes our good luck charm Smile

[cool][#0000ff]Yeah, we were kinda iffy on going down today too, but figured we could get Bryce checked out on his new tube and if the weather was doable we might get in a little fishing. It was still pretty calm when we came in about 1.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I hate the forecasts on the Weather Channel. I use them, but they are wrong more than right. In fact, when it comes to Willard Bay and Utah Lake they are often exactly just the opposite of what the weather turns out to be.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I guess we were "blessed".[/#0000ff]

What time did you guys get off the water? The wife and I launched out of the South Marina around 10 A.M. and ran north toward the feed lot out a couple hundred yards or so. I noticed several tubers along the dike, we came in around 12:30 or so. No fish for us as we were trying to catch a wiper or two. Main reason for the trip was to run some Stabil thru both motors prior to putting the boat in storage until March. I did Idle by a tuber in the South Marina channel on the way in, but didn't recognize the gentleman. Maybe we should have tried for some cats instead.

[cool][#0000ff]The guy you saw inside the channel when you came in was probably Wildcat94. He caught one cat inside the channel while waiting for me to finish working my way back in.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The cats were scattered, except for two small areas. I went a long time between bites and then several all at once. But, they were surprisingly active in the cooler water. Once I ran out of minnows I was just throwing plastics and crankbaits all the way back in and caught cats on the plastics and had a few hits on the hardbaits. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Sorry we missed each other. [/#0000ff]

fun times pat thanks for the conversion. I guess being able to squat over 600lbs and run a 4.9 40yd dash weighing 300lbs isnt good enough to propel myself in my new ride, man are my legs sore. Oh well they needed a good workout. next time i will catch more fish.

[cool][#0000ff]You did a lot better than some newbie tubers who try to cross the lake on their first trip out. First awakening is the increased frequency of "download" trips to shore. Second HELLO is when your muscles start to realize you are asking them to do things they ain't used to. PAIN.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]There are a lot of things in life that don't seem as glamorous the day after...especially when you are rubbing out leg cramps.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]You had a lot of adapting and learning to do today. Once you can focus on fishing and not on surviving in a new fishing environment you will do just fine. You have the basic knowledge and skills. Now you need to put them to use in your new ride.[/#0000ff]

Hahaha! Funny stuff Pat.[laugh]

Amen brother![angelic]

[cool][#0000ff]Thanks Jesse. Glad you can appreciate the humor. I have posted "7th Day Angler" reports before and have got a bit of heat (& brimstone) from the faithful who take themselves too seriously.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]So far...no lightning bolts, plagues or pestilence so I am either safe or just don't recognize any divine penalties for my heathenistic transgressions.[/#0000ff]

Keep your head down and watch your back. . . .[Wink]

[cool][#0000ff]Physically impossible...like a few other things folks have suggested I do to myself.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Reminds me of the old saying..."Keep your shoulder to the wheel, your nose to the grindstone and your ear to the ground...and then try to get something done in that position."[/#0000ff]

It can all be accomplished with PVC, mirrors and bubble gum.[Smile]

[cool][#0000ff]Sounds kinda kinky...but it would make a great video on Utube.[/#0000ff]

Nice report TD. My son in law and I were at willard also. I think we passed you on your way back to the channel. We were in the black and white tri-hull that was trolling as we passed. I saw all the PVC and wondered if it was you. Would have loved to stop and chat but you looked quite occupied and we had our lines out a long way. You had more success than we did. One cookie cutter for me, zero for Jordan. I had two crappie on but came off at the boat.[:/] We started at the north end of freeway bay, trolling and casting when we found a lot of schools. Went all the way around the lake, lots of fish on the finder, just no takers.

that made me laugh
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]You shoulda yelled a howdy. I don't get mean until somebody roars by at rod length or crosses my lines. Hardly ever fire off the RPGs any more. Getting mellower in my old age.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I know what you mean about frustration. My term for it is "seeing a lot more on sonar than I am catching." What torques me off is that those fish on my screen all have their middle fins raised and their mouths tight shut.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I could not count how many schools of bait I went over that had big fish in and round the small stuff. I think the wipers just kinda hang out around the candy store and snack whenever they feel like it. Not as likely to chase down a fast moving aritificial if all they have to do is yawn to get a meal.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]When we came back inside the south marina, there were lots of schools of small shadlets right on the shoreline, feeding on algae and zooplankton in the sun warmed waters. There were also a few random splashy explosions from occasional wipers. But that was usually in the middle of newly exposed brush that would make it tough to work a lure.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]About the kitties. All false modesty aside, I can usually count on catching a limit any time I go after them. They are always money in the basket, even when the wipers, wallies and crappies don't wanna play. Having fished Willard Bay since the 70's, I have got a pretty good handle on the best spots and best tactics to get the fixins for a platter of Kitty Krispies. First limit this year was in February, after launching through snow and ice...after trudging clear back in with my tube on a tube cart. There are some that might call me HARD CORE. see pic.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]PS...I bet I didn't burn as much fuel as your boat did.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
You got that right. I went through 1/2 a tank! The fuel you went through is the good kind[Wink] working off last nights supper. I really came close to hollerin' at you, but I was not sure if it was you and did'nt want to look like an idiot if it wasn't.[crazy] I allready had all the fish in the lake laughing, I did not need any one else laughing! Maybee I will see you on the ice soon?
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]Fishermen should never need to 'splain nothin'. You just do it and let the scales fall where they may. Don't worry about anybody laughin'. Heck, that goes with the territory when you're a fisherperson. Next time, give a shout. Might wake me up, but do it anyway.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I guarantee I will be spending time on the ice too. But not TOOOO soon, I hope. My auger ain't big enough to drill a hole for my tube.[/#0000ff]
