I finally made it up to the Blackfoot Friday for the first time this year. Usually I have hit it 4-5 times by now. We got there around 8:30 and the temp was around 36. The water felt even colder. There was a slight breeze that picked up at times during the day to around 15mph. Just enough to make it feel cold. There was quite a bit of moss in the river for this time of year. We started fishing and I ended up with the first fish in about 30 mins. 16.5" Cut.

I landed 2 more in the next hour and lost a few also. My buddy had not landed one yet. We rounded a bend in the river and found a hole. Fish On!. My buddy landed 3 in about 15 min. I had quite a few bites, but could not get them hooked and landed.

After that, it was about one an hour. We ended up with around 14 caught for the day. All were between 13"-17" and all were Cuts. Seems it is a little slower than usual, but the size were all pretty standard averaging about 15". There weather is looking up for Sunday, I may have to head out and hit some place again.

Nice fish. They sure are healthy this year. What part of the Blackfoot were you on, and what were you using?

Lower part of the river and we were using nymphs.

Thanks! I was wondering. We have fished the upper part but have been wanting to try the lower section. I always thought it was on reservation, but someone else told us that no it isn't. Is part of it res, or is all of it open? We were going to go on a drive up that way a couple of weeks ago, but the weather was not playing nice, so we didn't make it and probably won't now this year. It is nice out this morning, but if the forecast is right it won't be for long.[frown]

The last time we fished the upper part was earlier this year, in July I think. It was slow and lots of people. We left after a couple of hours. We had each caught 1 fish. Mine had a gouge on it -- probably pelican.

You can fish the lower part any where if you are on the North side of the river. The river is the edge of the reservation. There are plenty of places to fish it from Wolverine over to Trail Creek, up to Morgan's Bridge and all the way to the dam.

Here is a link to a map that shows where the Reservation borders are. MAP
