I always did well on the north fork (below dworshak dam) this time of year. I'm heading up there for thanksgiving, I'm hoping the south fork will be good then, I want to catch some on the fly rod. Good luck!

I was up there this past week. As usual, several bankies fishing bobber rigs around the Asahka boat launch. Also plenty of roadside access along the river. Good luck on the hunt and fishing.

I can't remember the name of the shop, but stay on the highway past the bridge into town and there's a tackle shop that has homemade maps of the river w/ hole's accessable by bank. Good luck down there! I wanna see a pic of one of them 40 inchers!

thanks for the input steelienut glad to see your using the site again. i heard you elk hunt didnt go to well. anyways i can only hope for a 40 incher do you think i need to go heavier than 15 lb test line? im thinking about bumping it up to 20lb and im planning on just using my normal tactics black helgie silver corkie pink worms or roe is there anything i need to do different? go with bigger roe sacs or anything?

all we ever use up there is 12lb line with 10lb leader that is plenty. but as far as useing roe i have only ever seen them use bober's and jig's unless out of a boat then thay fish it with roe.good luck it's the place to get that 40''.

I agree with fishley on the line choice. But if you want to try drift gear go for it......just don't do it between two bobber guys! As far as roe, I would keep it small just like on the Salmon. By the way, the chrome style corkie's and dark helgie's are working at your favorite hole on the Salmon, you may as well give them a go on the Clearwater.[

I spent several years before getting a driftboat bank fishing the Clearwater. Day in and day out the float and jig is the top producer on the river for bankies. I would suggest you use 1/8 ounce jigs with white head black body, orange head black body, chartreuse head pink body, white head red body, and lastly orange head pink body. If you can't find these color schemes before you go stop by jimmy doges place on the n. Fork. He lives on the asahka loop road and has a small tackle shop he runs out of his house. I would also suggest you try the north fork, it doesn't receive the boat pressure that the main does and has excellent water for float fishing.[reply][/reply]

thanks for the info ill have to get some of those color schemes. is the north fork a deep running river or fairly shallow?

I'll be in a white 4 door diesel ford with a cargo trailer. There will be 3 of us all together so try to keep an eye out for us. We'll be the guys catching all the fish[shocked]

Yup sounds like my plan, I've only fished the SF Clearwater and little Salmon so I'll be doing the same. I'll keep an eye out for ya around that area and maybe we can attack a hole for some metalheads
