Made the long drive to Bear Lake yesterday. It was 20 degrees when we got there(7am). Launched the boat at Cisco. The water temp was 51 degrees. We fished the east side all day in the shallow water. About 9 am I seen my rod jump a little then it went off the immediately the fish .started jumping out of the water. Not to much of a fight after that and had him landed. He was 30 in. long and weighed in at 10 lbs. We were trolling in 8 ft. of water with flatfish. I caught this one on a chrome with orange dots on it. We left a 2 pm. The only fish of the day between three of us. But going back to the dock we seen several swim by in the shallow water. Thanks to Bearlake fishguy with his post last week. Itwas worth the long drive.

Nice report and pictures Jeff, thanks for posting it. I would be happy with a fish like that too, it's tough catching this time of the year. Did you have any problems with the lure getting hung up on the bottom while trolling so shallow?

I did not have a problem setting the hook. The hook was actually pretty deep in its mouth I was surprised. It seems to me that a Strawberry cut when you catch them on a flatfish the hook placement a lot of times is not in there mouth. I forgot to mention that I had lead line with three colors out.

Nice Fish! But i have noticed that bear lake macs usually have a dull and muted color. Why is that? Is it just the time of year you catch them up there?

I think the reason for the color of the fish is some minerals or something in the water? Im sure BL fishguy will chime in on this? I have cought a few during the spawn that have some color to them but most have a lot of dull grey color to them?[crazy]
