[ol][li]It was such a nice day I had to hit the water some place so I picked on Willard...

I got there at about 11:30 and then found out I left me boat keys at home, so moving around very far was out...

I started out with lip less baits and cranks with no luck, but was seeing marks on my graff..

I fished for about two hours with only snagging one shad and no bites at all....

Then I started working my way back and thought I would try the drop shot and gulp minnow, and the first marks I seen on my graff I dropped on them and hooked up a big carp...I was going to take a picture but left the camera in the truck....

I worked the area and got a catfish about 2 1/2 to 3 lb and then found some smallmouth bass one was 14" the other was 15 1/2" then I hooked one fish that pulled me in the brush and broke me off...Just out from the front of the marina I got another cat maybe 1 1/2 lb and two more SM bass and a LM bass at 17" and a crappie...

Was at the ramp and made a few drops and got another carp and another SM bass at 16"...

I keep the two cats and the last carp long enough to get my camera and a picture then released them but carp are hard to make a live release they just seem to sink to the bottom even when I do the TD release...

No wipers but still had a good day..

Sounds like the same thing I went through a couple of weeks for me. I forgot the keys to the boat and fished the weeds on the north end of the beach area but caught nothing and trolled around the north marina for a couple of hours and netted nothing. So your day was better than mine. After that I made a spare key and put it on the truck key so I always have a back up now.

Cliff, I notice that you use the drop shot technique alot, especially at the Jordanelle. What size & color of the Berkley Gulp do you use and do you use others plastic jigs besides the Gulps? Did you hit the south or north marina?
I tried the technique futilly but because I didn't have much faith in it, I didn't give it a chance and switched to regular jigging.

How I rig and use is this...

My weight is the Mojo pineapple down shot weight in 1/4oz and the only gulp minnow I use is smelt in 3" works best for me...

I do have lots and lots of worms and grubs that I drop shot with as well...

But I use 1/4 and heaver weights, the thing you must do is know for sure when your weight is on the bottom and keep it there...

But like any set up you have to catch fish to know it will work for you...

When trying a new set up or lure I will force myself to use it all day and see just how many ways I can work it...

At Willard I had to drag it and try not to shake it just drag and let set for a count of five then drag it again...

Good advice. I'll try it this next week when I can break away.
