Hit up the nelle last night. Fished the last three hours of light. Caught 4 bows and I cutthroat. I have been catching quite a few cuts on the nelle the last few years. The cut went about 17" but was very skinny. I was just shore fishing. I was shocked at the size of rainbows. All of them were between 18 and 19"s. They were fat as pumpkins and weighed at least two and a half to three. Much bigger than the standard rainbows I am used to catching at the local lakes. Fish were hungry. I didn't miss one hit. Kept two rainbows for some fish sandwiches last night.

Good, you must have caught them as they were waking up.[:p] I spend most of the day there yesterday and was able to catch one.[cool] Nice report thanks!

What were you using fishjon. My hat is off to you and the shore fishing.
Seems I am doing that more these days also.

I am kind of ashamed to adimit this: especially to you (at one time in my life I was a devout flyfisherman) but I was using a mephs 3 gold algea on one rod and a worm and bobber on the other. Caught the cut and a couple of rainbows on the spinner and the rest on the worm. It wasn't serious fishing. Just a relaxing evening in a camp chair.

Right on. My deep nymphing is like your worm and bubble...just different lures.
Like I said, my hat is off. Shore fishing can be a challenge but you sound like you got it down....keep up the great work.
I caught several rainbow at Jordanelle the past two trips, Mine were all very healthy also. The guys I went with caught some as well but a couple were as you said....snakie looking. But I didn't catch any chub either and I was fishing the bottom.
I wonder if they group in areas.
I was impressed with the J after the last couple of trips.

So what is your standard fly at the nell. I almost brought my tube and fly rod yesterday but decided not to go to the trouble. The rainbows were full of ladybugs of all things. Both of them that I kept had over a dozen in them. The both had a greenish water beetle in them as well.

Right now, my favorite go to fly is a #12 Haresear. But I know my Kelly Galloup Egg Suckin' Sculpin in Brown and Olive are killer.

Definitely, the chubs do group up. If you find them, there will be lots of them together. Can't keep their grubby little mouths off my fly if I get into them.
I have hit Jordanelle also and have done really well on Halloween buggers, go figure, time of year right? I also caught some on orange zonkers. They are very good fighters and we caught 12 last time I went. Most were big and fat. Amazing.
I actually wanted to catch a chub or two for baiting the jigs at the berry, but they have moved off to some other area.
