I had a couple days off work so I gave Monday to the Mrs. and helped out around the house. Then I headed to Renegade on Tuesday morning.
I was in the tube and on the water at 6:00am. The moon was hanging low and huge in the west and the air temp was in the teens. For the first 30 minutes or so I had the bay to myself. I could hear elk bugling in almost every direction; even saw a couple scampering up the hill as the sun began to peek over the eastern hills.
Mornings just don't get much more beautiful than that.
Unfortunately, it seems that the full moon had the fish partying all night and they were probably hungover. I got nibbles all morning, but only 2 serious hits. While it was still dark I used a glow-in-the-dark jig with a little chub on it. After sunup I switched to a pearl jig with the chub; both seemed to get the same reactions. Nibbles, but few serious buyers.
I landed the first serious buyer - a 22" Rainbow - an absolutely gorgeous fish.
The second serious one chased and played with my jig all the way to the surface, but never latched on.
By 9:00 even the nibbles were getting more rare and by 9:30 I decided I better head home and be a responsible husband.
I got home to a warm greeting from the Mrs. followed by "You're home early! I wasn't expecting you until 2:00 or 3:00."
Darn! I could have fished for another 2 or 3 hours!
