Wanted a little more fly fishing before the winter sets in and then it's ice fishing.
The Provo is an hour away and I didn't have the time to head up there so I hit the American Fork river along the camp grounds. I had a ball. At first I started with a parachute Adams. I was fishing in the shaded areas, which is most of the river now. Nothing so I put a bead head prince, I think that is what they are called, as a dropper and started catching browns right off. I'd prefer to fish on top but I'll take any fish with a fly and enjoy the catch, any size also. When I moved into a little section of sun on the riffles I noticed fish rising. Back with the Adams and I was catching on top. I had a blast. I caught till I left. There is no size to them, 9 or 10 inches is big. Some were only 3 inches. I also left my share of flies in the trees above and behind me. I'm sure it's the same on Diamond Fork and Thistle creek which I also like to fish. I think the sun on the water got some kind of hatch going, although I didn't see any bugs. I think the fish in the smaller streams aren't so picky. They just want to feed up for the winter.
