I have a friend that says he sinks a glowstick to the bottom of his hole and that it brings the fish in to the area. Has any one else tried this and is it legal?

Never tried sticking a glow stick in the water but allot of jigs glow so I guess as long as he able to retrieve the glow stick when he done don't see why its not legal.

I tried it. I was thinking that if glow jigs work than a glow stick would attract fish but I was wrong. I've tried it for different species but I've always done better with a simple glow in the dark jig. It may work, just not for me.
I put a rubber band around the glow stick and tied a line to it so I could retrieve it when I was done fishing.

I also use glowing jigs. I make my own jigs and put on a glow powder that literally remains lit for hours. A whole box of em is as bright as my alarm clock, tests remain undone to see if they can bee seen from outer space! [:p]
Just for kicks and giggles, I tried casting them at night and tossing them looked like a shooting star, and retrieving them was kinda eerie. [
] The jury is still out (maybe WAY out) on the effectiveness of that approach! But if I'm fishing under the ice in any kind of depth, a glow white and a glow chartreuse is a must for me in the arsenal.

When I was up to the Gorge I was told by a Wy fish cop that glow jigs or any artificial light was against the law in Wy to fish with....

I don't use glow sticks or glow jigs. I just cut a nice hole and then lift up my shirt a little bit and my white belly glows for all the fish to see. Kind of cold......if you know what I mean. GET IN MY BELLY!

I've also asked the same thing about the WY reg. It states "it's illegal to use artificially lighted hooking devices" or "illegal to use artificial light to attract fish". The technical aspect of a light would be using energy in the form of heat (electricity) or a chemical reaction (light stick). Yes, using glow sticks would be considered illegal in WY, much like the presentations being discussed here.
Many of the lures used on the Gorge (or any other WY water for that matter) glow, whether you troll for kokes or target burbot. They actually don't produce light though, just absorb light and re-emit it. Technically a luminescent jig could fit into the first category because it is artificial light, but they aren't going to address it or cite you for it.
