A buddy and I decided to head down Lower Fish Creek when we found Schofield partially iced over. We didn't want to chance the thin ice like the other guys that did today. I really believe shrinkage is a problem in really cold water. [laugh]
Anyway, I love Lower Fish Creek in the Spring and Summer. Winter is harder due to the long moss and water plants from Summer and the greatly reduced water flow.
We parked below the damn and hiked down to the bridge. I caught a small brown there on my second cast with my chartruese spinner with the gold blade. Fishing was really slow. I didn't even get many followers.
As we hiked lower to a few deeper slow pools I pulled out my favorite brown trout hunting Rapala and went after it. I ended up catching five or six pretty nice fish. I caught one cut throat, 5 browns and 1 small tiger trout. We had a lot of fun.
It was pretty cold. The trail down had some snow, but wasn't bad at all. A lot of the slower pools had ice on at least one side of the banks and some on both. We only saw one other fisherman in the couple of hours we fished.
The temperature ranged between 35 and 45. It got really cold as we hiked out at dusk. It was a fun day on the river. Hope you enjoy the pictures!
