I called James this afternoon to see if he was up for some late afternoon crappie and he was. We fished the last 2 hours of light this afternoon and caught quite a few. We ran first to my new favorite offshore spot that Labman and I found Monday and both of us caught one on our first cast. The fish were smaller than Monday but still fun. Every once in a while a big one would bite however and we ended up getting 3 TARPs from that spot. Two of the three TARPs were right at 15 inch black crappie and the other was a 14 inch white crappie. James tried a 1/8oz bait to see if they would hit it and make it easier to fish as we were fishing deep, about a 40 count with a 1/16 oz jig and the wind was blowing making it hard to stay in contact with the structure and keep the boat well positioned. While he did that I caught 7 small fish one right after the other with a few being keeper size. The fish finally stopped biting, or I couldn't continue to find the "sweet spot" so we ran to an offshore spot that had been really good to me for the last month. The wind was less at this spot but still finding the right spot and controlling the boat was a pain. We got a few more keepers there before we ran out of fishable light and we came home. The water temp was right at 55 today and the fish were on structure next to creek channels. We both used 1/16 oz jigs and were fishing at 18-20 feet deep on one spot and about 13 feet on the other. The bite was pretty slow as compared to many times I have been out recently and the fish didn't seem overly aggressive. The heavier bait didn't catch any fish so a slow fall was required. The wind was really tough to maneuver in today but it was fun and at least we caught a few for CCSM to eat. He knows how many keepers we had but all were quality fish. I will continue to work on getting more consistent hitting the "sweet spot" on my newly found offshore spot. Thanks for going with me today CCSM, it's always a pleasure to fish and fellowship with you. Here are a few pics:
