I got home from work this morning and decided to see if the flatheads would be available with the mud that came down the creek last night. When I looked out yesterday the mudline was behind the house and I figured that it would be to the flathead "hole" by this morning and that would bring the flatheads shallow on the drop. I didn't catch one on the drop but one did hit as I started to reel back in. Initially I wasn't sure how big the fish was but it didn't feel as big as the others that I had hooked on 2lb test so I took it easy on him. He pulled me around for a while but then began to tire and I saw my swivel after about 11 minutes and I gaffed the 10lber after 12 minutes. I think that the gaff will work better than the net that I have being alone and with the net not being a long handled model. It was good to finally get a flathead to the boat on the light line but I was hoping for bigger. I got one more bump on the drop but the fish didn't take it. Hopefully in the next few days one of the "biggies" will take me for a ride. Sorry no pic but all three sets of batteries that I had would not make my camera work today. I know that there will be a record fish in the area, the question is whether I will get bit and get it close enough to the boat to gaff.
