i want to take my boat out one last time this comming weekend (12th) and am seeking some advice on where to go. i dont want to go back to PV, and willard either. would the 'Nelle, DC, Strawberry, or Rockport be a good jumping off point? i see here that ice is forming in the bays at strawberry, and am worried about the ramps there, however, the cold doesent phase me at all, im just worried about the ramp conditions as i said before and shore ice. DC/ the 'nelle are looking better and better. on a side note im taking a new BFT member ( ThecrappieCMDR) and hes never caught a wall eye, nor fished from a boat i believe..... looking for yall's thoughts/input and thanks!

[cool][#0000ff]Not many reports from anywhere right now, but based upon past experience I would recommend either the Rock Cliff arm of Jordanelle or Deer Creek. Little chance of a walleye right now but some good rainbows on tap with a good shot at some big post spawn browns. In years past the fish keep biting right up until ice up and then keep right on hitting under the ice. They can be fairly shallow or you might have to dredge deeper. Let your sonar be your guide.[/#0000ff]

thanks pat! question for you sir....... if you had to choose between the two, and were taking a newbie out on your boat (not your toon) which would you prefer?

Bear Lake is always pretty good winter boating, and with the whitefish run in full swing it could be a good trip.

that was another guess of mine but thats to far for him to go in one day

[cool][#0000ff]Probably Deer Creek. A lot more different spots with different personalities and different fishing opportunities. Not as many snags for trollers either.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]If you launch at Walsburg, start by looking up in the bay. Then fish both along the rocks outside and along the south shore to the west of the ramp. Next swing some longline Rapalas over through Rainbow Bay and up around the island. After that run along the steep banks below the railroad tracks. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Last year at this time a couple of guys were scoring a lot of big rainbows over 20 inches by just longlining Rapalas all over the lake. The fish were scattered and not too deep. At the same time some other guys were catching lots of smaller fish near the island by soaking power putty and worms.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The perch have gone deep...maybe up to 60 feet. The walleyes maybe even deeper.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]In years past I have caught some nice bows and browns by jigging gold Kastmasters in about 30 feet of water. Use the sonar to find out where they are hanging out.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Dress warm and good luck.[/#0000ff]

This time of year I usually frequent either E.Canyon or Rockport. Rockport last week still had a courtesy dock still at the launch ramp and E.C. didn't. There also have been good reports of some nice bows coming out of Echo. [fishin]

Lost Creek???

winter boating is fun, but buy a bag of salt and keep it in the truck just in case you need to throw some on the ramp to get out. Many times I have needed a little to get the boat out of Lincoln beach boat ramp this time of year.

stopped at maverick and got some salt before i went to the gym this morning, thanks for the heads up.... its looking like DC unless something dramatic weather wise happens, thanks for the input
