Last I saw up at East Canyon (two days ago) there was some ice but you could see all of the many thin spots from shore. I walked out about 6 feet and got a really bad feeling. My suggestion is to go to one of these others:
Strawberry bays: some good solid ice in a couple of the bays
Mantua: all capped and good fishing for perch and some trout
Scofield: trout fishing is decent and only getting better
Willard: decent ice, don't know about the fishing but at least you won't make the 5 o'clock news about having to be rescued from falling through the ice.
Rock Cliff: ice is getting stronger but I would give it another week or so
Mirror Lake Highway: IF you have a sled this is the place to go ice fishing. Tigers and Artic Grayling on Washington Lake and Albinos and Rainbows on Mirror. This is a favorite of mine, nobody else is ice fishing up there and the fishing is fantastic!!! But you have to have a snowmobile (sled) to get up there.
Well I hope I helped out. Good luck no matter where you go and let us all know how you do.
