I'm planning on getting one or two of these and was wondering if any shop in Las Vegas carries them or do I have to order them from English shops ?

If you're talking about those ultra-long poles (12 foot +) , those are popular for stripers too, so you might find one around lake mead - although i'd try www.ebay.com first . . .I find alot of tackle and equipment there cheap . . search for 'rod 12 foot'

[cool]What you are looking for is called a "match" rod. These are used for fishing carp, bream, tench, roach and other "coarse" fish in Europe. Cabela's has what they call a European Live bait rod...in 11 or 13 feet...for $59.

There is a growing number of anglers throughout the US who are finding the long rods, and the unique way of presenting baits to old Mr. Buglemouth, to be a highly enjoyable way of spending a day. Big fish on long rods give you all the fun you can stand.

There is a small group of fishermen with British accents that regularly fish Saguaro Lake near Phoenix...where I do a lot of my float tubing. They send a lady out in a rubber raft, to sprinkle chum over the area into which they will be casting, and then the set up with a half dozen rods...all the long sticks you mentioned. Once the fish move in, they are in constant action and usually draw a good crowd of onlookers.

I have always maintained that I would rather stretch my string and bend my stick on a carp than get blanked by blankety blank bass.

There are several good websites in carp fishing and international match fishing. Here's one with some great info and awesome pics.

has a 30 pound class trolling rod,

I have used this rod for carp and I can tell you that it has what it takes to do battle with them running freight trains.

on my last time out fishing for carp I hauled in 3 thirty inchers in less than 45 minutes time.
