I watched the temp out there all day long and it was just too cold out there to be enjoyable for me. Did some errands and at the end of the day split some wood. I got to the house at about 5:10 and just knew I could stand the cold for a half hour and in my experience the last hour or so of light the crappie turn on in the creek and so I decided to go. As you can tell, I'm really spoiled by where I live. I put the boat in and was fishing by 5:19. The bite was slow and I had started off with a pearl BG shad with the tail chartreuse but didn't get bit. I decided that I would see if my trusty Panfish Assassin would do the trick and it did. The fish were at a 5 count and I ended up with 4 by the time my hands were too cold and there wasn't enough light left at 5:53. The bite was really subtle. All the fish were 11+ inches and one was a monster, 14.75 inches and really thick too. Very close to 2lbs or more I would say. All bites were hard to see and the biggie just made the line just a wee bit too slack at the pause. I'm glad that I wasn't out in the cold very long as it was brutal but I figured even a wimp like me could handle a half hour. All fish were caught in WT, not far from my house. The water in the Wolftever branch has cleared for the most part but the Long Savanah branch is still very muddy. Here's a pic of the biggie.
