Saturday, 12/11/09- Hit the water early (5:50am).

Thought I'd try to get in some live bait fishing. Searched Las Vegas Wash for shad.....nothing. Checked out Gov't Wash for shad.....nothing. Could not find any sign of shad anywhere. Water temp about 57 degrees. Maybe the live shad party is over. Anyway, ended up anchored near the vegas wash chumming and soaking cut frozen shad and anchovy. Nothing, not even a sniff. [crazy] NDOW shows up and administers a test. Yes, I passed. The polite young ranger tells me it has been a slow day for all the anglers he has tested today. I feel better now! Move to Crawdad Cove, soak more cut bait. Watch two boats pulling umbrela rigs around. Nothing. Move to Hemmenway, join the trolling crowd. Nothing.

Best part of this day on Lake Mead was a rainbow over Las Vegas Wash. Better luck next time.

Well, you make me glad that i took this weekend off from fishing!

Maybe we can get some better fishing with the warm spell this week.

Was the "test" a sobriety test ? If it was what exactly did he do for the test. Its always nice to catch fish, but its always nice just to be fishing. I have fished Lake Mead more this year then ever. Once the holidays are over I'll be looking for good reports again. I love this site as well, I have learned so much.

I also was out on Saturday. The stripers were down on the beach in front of the fishing pier. About 6:00 am there were a bunch of fish chasing the shad to the surface in about 50 to 60 feet of water. caught about 4 two pounders. Nothing else for the rest of my day. Did not have the camera this trip. Also the fish cleaner is broken and roped off. cleaned fish at home.

[cool]I feel your pain. I was out on friday afternoon and also hit vegas wash in the tube with no love. Went to hemenway and saw birds diving close to shore east of the pier. I tubed over and cast and jigged shad type lures for nada. Didn't see any trout either but was told by another angler that they did plant. I agree with Whizzle and we may get some shad action with the warmer weather.

No, I don't pop the top that early in the day. Although a little Yukon Jack in my coffee on a cold wet morning might be nice! []

NDOW was performing safety checks. Fire extinguisher, throwable, lifejackets, etc. Also fishing license.

Next time out I'm going back to the wash. Looking for shad even if it ends up being a waste of time. Just got to try again for that last day of live bait fishing!
