I started fishing from shore at the cove just east of Rocky Point around noon on Saturday. Caught 3 stripers using rapalas and jerkbaits. The first two I caught the first hour I was there and the last around 3:00. Left when the sun went down.

I figured I would try the same place again on Monday. Showed up at about 1:00p. I caught 5 this trip. The first one I got around 2:00 and the last four just before the sun went down. Long hike out of there with five fish. Its a long hike out of there no fish and with the water rising a few inches the trail to that cove is starting to get covered in water. The water is forecasted to rise another foot by the end of the month. [inline DSC00360.JPG]

I tried that cove again today hoping for a repeat of yesterday. I didn't get so much as a nibble today. I tried chumming and using anchovies, spoons, crankbaits, even topwater I lost the two lures I have the most confidence in also. It was a real nice day though alot nicer than last week. Hopefully with the warmer weather the fish started feeding further up the vegas arm closer to 33 hole. Maybe I'll try somewhere near there next.

Looks like the hike was worth it to me! Great post, nice pictures.

All of the fish I've caught in that cove were in shallow water close to the shoreline. When I caught those fish in the first hour I was there I would cast out as far as I could ,but I all my bites came close to shore. The fish I caught later in the day I would see cruising the shoreline and I'd cast out in front of him and get a bite. Every time I'd pull him in I'd see one or two drawn in by the commotion. On Monday I was lucky enough to unhook the fish quick enough to get my lure in the water before left.

I noticed these guys on Sunday and thought they were shad hiding in the shoreline. Saw them again on Wenesday and realized they were bluegill. Most of the fish I caught out of that cove had eaten small shad and few had eaten some small bluegill. One had three crawdad claws in its stomach. First time I found anything but shad.
