I am trying to find tigers through the ice. I am in Southern Utah and in the last couple of years they have placed tigers in a few of the lakes. I am hoping someone can give me some advice. Everyone around here seems to think that it is impossible to catch tigers through the ice but I don't believe it.
Any information would be great. I am looking for depth, bait type, terrain, etc. Thanks in advance for the help.
[shocked][crazy] Man oh man do those people you now have it wrong. I catch so many tiger trout through the ice, I'm of the opinion that through the ice is the BEST time to catch tiger trout. In general, tigers roam shallower than their rainbow and cutt cousins. They are also much more inclined to be predatory fish eaters. That's why they put them in waters with too many chubs (i.e. Scofield). Although many trout prefer small ice jigs with a waxworm or something like that, tiger trout LOVE normal sized tube jigs with pieces of chub minnow or even a whole minnow in winter. I also have luck with a jig tipped with a mealworm 6 inches or less from a kastmaster.

Tiggies are easy to catch through the ice..
A white or pearl 2-3 inch tube with crawler or cut bait such as sucker meat or a shiner and its game on when they are actively feeding. Good luck

I would just fish [#ee3030]Scofield[/#ee3030], there are tons of Tigers in that lake. I can't imagine not catching Tigers there. Might be bit of a drive from Southern Utah.

Hooner -- go try Forsyth Reservoir. You should be able to get into tigers. Try jigging for them like you would splake. Tip your jig with some cut bait.

A couple friends and I hit Forsyth on the 19th with no luck. We could see on the finder that the fish would come up and take a look but never bite. I was excited to try for Tigers as well but with no luck. Let me know if you do have some luck up there as I'd be excited to try it again. We tried everything from tubes, ice-cutters, kastmasters, etc with no luck.

We just fished Huntington Res today and caught 18 Tigers. Average size was 12". We fished in about 30 ft of water, and hit them anywhere from the bottom to about 15 ft down. They were all caught with worms tipped with a marshmellow. The action came and went, but it was a good day. Even though it snowed about 6 inches on us.

I will try and give you a call. I just heard that you don't have any more tickets to Randyland and you will be out of them for a while.
