I just called fish lake lodge and they said it had been fozen for 10 days and people have been fishing it daily? It seems like it should be plenty safe for sleds or wheelers can anyone confirm that? I would like to go up tommorrow> Can anyone confirm the thickness? thanks

I was just there yesterday. 6" of beautiful clear ice with a nice glassy finish on top.

I was with Karl_L. we limited out on trout mostly splake but a few rainbows and even a brookie. could've easily caught our limits of perch as well if we'd had more time.[inline "Fish Lake Haul 12-28-2009.JPG"]

There's plenty of lodging in Richfield which is about a 45 minute drive from the lake. Not sure if there's anything closer. I don't know the area all that well.

Thanks for the info sounds safe for a wheeler? there is good lodging up there its a little spendy the first night then after that the rooms are half price. I will probably be up there tomorrow maybe see a some of ya up there.
SO MORE THAN LIKELY ITS SAFE FOR A MACHINE? I DO NOT WANT TO SWIM OR LOSE A MACHINE[:/] THANKS THIS IS A GREAT WEBSITE

I wouldn't take a machine across the lake yet. There was still open water in a couple small sections on Saturday. Yes, there are parts of the lake that have 6" or more ice, but not the whole lake yet. If you stayed to the edges or the north and south ends you should be fine, but I definately wouldn't trek across the middle. There were a couple of bikes lost last year on the early buckling ice.
There are a couple small motels in Loa and another one in Koosharem that are within 20 minutes of Fishlake.

Have they plowed the turnouts and parking areas yet?

TAKE ICE CLEATS. IT WILL SAVE A HEAD HURT. was there monday and the ice was the slickest I've ever seen it. I don't think you could run a wheeler or snow mch. on it it is so slick. Also the ice is growing so fast that pressure ridges form in an instant. one about two feet high formed in less that 5 min. and you could see water flowing out. The turn outs are plowed, and fishing was good. [:/]4our of us caught over 60 splake and rainbows. Perch meat was the key. we usually are over the hundred mark.

I was down on Sun and Mon, I would not take a sled or 4 wheeler across yet either, we were going across the south end of the lake and found 6 by the shore 5 out about 150 yds and 2 1/2 half way across almost @$!# my pants when the auger went thru so fast. anyways the fishing is great from daylight to around 1:00, Splake and rainbows, 12-17 inches. and you need ice cleats!!

Hey that last pick brings back good memories it looks like it is looking out from Joe bush. I kinda miss those 100 fish days. And feeding the old bald eagle. And hooking a few pups. Thanks for sharing. The splake are one of the best tasting fish. Not to mention the umteen million perch I filleted out of there. Tasty treats.

Your right on pikeman, taken right at the parking lot. wanted to get across to the east side, but the ice was sketchy out in the middle.

you can make it to the east side if you cross at the bottleneck or take the long treck around the south end
