As some of you have already reported Ririe is frozen with 4 1/2" of ice today around the boat ramp and rock pile.
Redleech gave me a call and he reported that perch, trout, and kokanee were caught just off the boat ramp. He suggested that if you get into the little kokes go deeper. He found some 12inchers and one 15" koke today.

That is great to hear. I will be out there next week when I get back in town. I can't wait.

Hmmmm, sounds tasty. May have to head up there this weekend.

I've never been there, but I will if the perch are there. I found this on the F&G website, any truth?
"The fishing season on Ririe is somewhat different than other lakes and reservoirs in Idaho. Most are open year-round; however,
fishing on Ririe begins the end of May and closes the end of November, (check your regulation pamphlet for specific dates). This is done to reduce impact to the several thousand elk which use the adjacent Tex Creek Wildlife Management Area as their winter range. Without such a closure, disturbances to the elk would likely push them toward adjacent agricultural lands."

(And no, I didn't toddle out to the pickup in the snow to get my rule book and check the dates)

I think they need to update that info, thats got to be at least ten years old. Ririe is a family fishing water but it does have the special rule that you can't ice fish beyond a mile of the dam and no snow machines. Also it said in there that the Rainbow is the most common fish, I can't remember ever catching a rainbow there before. I've caught Cut throats. Anyways great news about the ice I'll be up there soon.

Thanks. Do you drive to it or hike in or what?

You drive, then you hike down a mile long boat launch haha..

worth the hike..!

You can drive four wheelers onto the ice when it gets a little more stable.
Like others have said the rules have not been updated. You can only ice fish the one mile section between the dam and the 1 mile markers they put on the ice. I really think this is stupid especially if we are willing to walk in, but I guess they have there reasons.

Great news it's always nice to have more options on places to fish. Those kokes were fun last year. never did catch a perch though.
