I decided to head to Chesterfield this morning after Wingnut36 said they were catching fish. It took me a little longer to get there with the bad roads this morning so I was a lot later than I wanted to be. I got there just before 11:00 am.

A big thanks to Wingnut36 for posting what he was catching them on. My wife called me just as I was rigging poles and said try something small and pink. I had no sooner got it to the bottom when I caught my first Chesterfield trout! I am not sure the name of the lure but it was small pink with a white belly ( I call them ice flys but not sure of their real name ) I put a small piece of nightcrawler on it also.

I caught 6 fish total, with two keepers and missed a few bites, all in about an hour and a half. It seemed to be pretty fast, not much time between hits.

I was fishing next to a group that was doing pretty well also, they had caught one really nice fish, just using worms. One of them had a pole get pulled down the hole, but they used their underwater camera and another rod and got it back plus the fish! I thought that was pretty cool.

It was a good day, wish I could have stayed longer but started to worry about the roads going home. I wish I wouldn't have waited so long to finally fish Chesterfield but now I know I will be back.

I took a friend of mine out this morning for his first ever ice fishing trip after hearing the good reports and doing well myself on Sunday. Unfortunately, something must have changed...we fished hard for three hours and didn't ice a single fish! The guy in front of us caught 3 nice ones but no one else in sight was doing anything. We started the day with small and pink and ended up using small and red, small and yellow, large and black...basically everything in my tackle box! I am not sure what could have changed, I know Sunday was sunny and pleasant and today was cloudy and ugly...can't imagine that makes that big a difference through the ice tho.

Oh well, that is why they call it fishing and not catching! It won't stop me from trying again real soon. Maybe next time I'll head up to Ririe if that ice gets a little thicker...

Went to Chesterfield 12/31 also. Didn't get there until about 3 pm. We were fishing by the boat ramp in 20' of water. Using about everything, caught one, had a couple more bites. With the wind blowing, it was cold, so we called it a day at 5:00.
Happy New Years!!!!!!!!!!

I forgot to add, we had already been to Deep Creek all morning. Fish weren't biting very good there, thats why we got to Chesterfield so late. Wifey and the kids were already cold so I have to give them credit for wanting to go North.
Which brings up another question, if you have two fish from another lake and go to Chesterfield, can you keep any?

Maybe every one has taken all the fish....LOL

I was there 930-3 and between 2 of us we had about a dozen hits and none hooked They're tired of getting their lips ripped and said bite me we're not falling for that jigging trick anymore
