So, I went to Deer Creek this morning and didn't do very well. Instead of letting the fish win for the day, I ate some lunch and heading down to Utah Lake. When I arrived about 3:30, the fishing was quite slow here as well. I thought the full moon had just ruined may day off from work for fishing. Then, a little after 4, the fish got hungry. And I mean HUNGRY. I fished until it was too dark to take any more pictures for the ice fishing contest (as I was not keeping any). Well, in about an hour and a half I caught over 60 bluegill, 5 perch, and 3 crappie. The bluegill were biting so fast, that I was fishing with my two poles, one at a time, in one hole. I would catch 1, then as I took it off, drop the other down. There were many times that both pole were out of the water at the same time with fish on them. I would deffinately say fishing was GOOD this evening. Sorry, but anyone who aska where I was fishing I can't disclose that info. I can only tell you it was on Utah Lake (it is a friend of mine's secret spot). Anyways, Good Luck to you all and Happy New Years!
Time to start drinking!!!

Glad to hear you salvaged the day! I took two twelve year old kids who had never caught a fish over to pelican point boat harbor today. Started out real slow...like nothing at all for six hours. Seems we had missed the morning bite and they shut down real hard. I felt bad, but they hung in there and really wanted to catch a fish. I was ready to leave, but they weren't. About 3:30 the bite started up again, and they each caught about twenty fish each before we left at 4:30. They have a whole new outlook on fishing now, and want to know when we can go again. We only caught bluegill, nothing else. Utah Lake has been productive longer than I thought it would this year.

Thanks for the report. There are a lot of sizable gills showing up this year along with larger crappie in greater numbers and more perch than I have ever seen there. It looks like the carp removal is starting to take hold and the game fish are responding well. I haven't gone after any perch there so I might try that this weekend for a change of pace. 100 or more crappie a day with some big gills in the mix is entertaining but it is so ridiculously easy sometimes that it gets a little old. Yes I'm spoiled.[sly] Between the Jordan and the lake I have probably nailed darn near 1000 fishies in the past 2 months. I think this is a great time to get the kiddos interested because the action can be ridiculously fast and in an average day you might tangle with 5 different species. With the booming panfish population I think there are going to be millions of runts if the water stays up over the next few years so it is important that anglers keep the panfish population in check. I encourage everyone to please release largemouth and smallies. There are folks taking largemouth well over the size limit. You can take a limit of crappie and blugill and then top it off with a bunch of white bass, all of which are good table fare, and get enough filets to feed several people. Therefore, there is no reason to keep largemouth which aren't nearly as good to eat and can grow large enough to present another sporting opportunity. Walleye are going to be well fed too so please let the little guys go and mind the limit so that there is some good walleye fishing in years to come. Let's all do our part.[
