Anyone else on here fish in north Idaho? Most of our smaller lakes have a foot of good ice now. Im pretty new to the forum and just wondering if I got neighbors?

I do not have a clue, however, I would be thrilled to read some reports from up North! I occassionally have a conference up there and would love to know where some good fishing was. If you ever are in East Idaho feel free and contact any of us to get some pointers.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I may be the only Idaho guy up north so far anyway. I live near Hayden and do most of my fishing north of me. So far this year I have done well on trout and fair on perch. The trout have been running 12-14" and the perch 9". Several places to catch lots of small perch but 9" + are harder to find. We also have some pretty good pike fishing, but that can be slow at times. We are haveing a slight melt down the last couple of days with rain, but its supposed to tighten up again soon.

Blueduck, Any places up there to catch crappie through the ice? I'll be you have plenty of options during the summer in your neck of the woods to catch several different species. I am going to have to visit that part of the state never been but the wife had a conference in Couer de lane and loved it there.

I been lurking on this site for a while checking stuff out and figured I better register and make a bigger North Idaho presence on here.... "Your no longer alone BlueDuck". I'm a bit up north of you in Athol and the last few day's fishing has been good. Round lake for the trout is slowing down a touch but still good. Mirror lake is still on fire... Limited out yesterday with ease. A mixed bag of Rainbow's and Brookie's. Last Saturday, Spirit lake was On FIRE with bluebacks but seemed to slow down since the warm up.

Glad to hear that there's at least a couple of guys on here from up north. I just moved to Moscow two days ago, so I'll be out fishing as soon as I get clearance from the boss! I'd love to get into some pike. do you ever ice fish for them, I'd love to try that, I've never got one through the ice!

73Blazer.... probably have seen you out on Round lake. I have fished it ten times this winter. Done very well on the trout but only found the perch a couple of times. Haven't tried Mirror yet.
I have done well on Crappie in the spring and summer on Upper Twin but haven't found them thru the ice yet. My wife got me a power auger, so that will be a project in the next couple of days. Supposed to be back in the teens of low's by wed.

I am from South West, but I am wondering about Cocolalla (or whatever it is called). Either of you been fishing that?

I fished Cocolalla once this year and caught lots of perch but the biggest was about 8". Last year I caught quite a few trout in the 14 -16" class by not yet this year. Its got a foot of ice right now.

When I fished it several years ago during the summer, I was catching mainly Crappie. Do you ever get Crappie through the ice?

Fished Round lake again today, caught my limit in about 3.5 hours. Cought one with a tag in it so I sent off the info to IDFG. They say some of the tags come with a reward.... That would be cool.

BlueDuck, I probably did see you out there on Round. To bad you moved away would have been great to meet you in person.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome... I look forward to posting a bunch more.

Blazer.... I been in the same house for 30 something years, Im still here. Ill see you out there one of these days. I usually drive a gray Toyota pu with a canopy. How was the ice? A little sloppy on top I would think.

BlueDuck, I've seen your truck there before.... I drive a tan chevy pickup with a canopy. It say's "Gamakatsu and fear no fish" on the tail gate.

The ice has some slush on the top but its still probably 8" thick.

I fished sportsmans on Hayden lake Jan 2-2010 the ice is sloppy on top but good solid clear ice for a base. Caught (2) 5 lbs pike within 2 hours there!! Went to kelso lake later that day to attempt trout but had no bites at the east end of the lake. Fished North end Cocolalla Last 3 evenings caught 60+ each day being out there for about 4 hours each time! Nothing with size all 5-8 inches. Fished Round Lake yesterday morning caught 2 trout @ 12 inches in size in about an hour and a 1/2.. Any Perch being caught with some size to them around[fishin] here??

I noticed they posted no trespassing signs at the railroad tracks along hwy 95 on the east side of Cocolalla... been fishing there for years and you would allways see 10 to 20 ppl out there, specially on weekends.. Now you dont... Are they enforcing the No Tresspassing or can you still park and cross the tracks?

I saw that a few days ago myself. I dont know if they are enforcing it of not, it prevented me from parking there!! My buddies and I are trying to get our snowmobile fixed so we can just park at the sportsmans access and take it and zip down to the south end. As far as the trespassing signs go I would ask around in the cocolalla area!!

Caught A jumbo perch out on gamlin today!! Out there for 4 hours and only caught 2 perch, slow but rewarding lake!!

Fished upper Twin lake yesterday. 14" of good ice. Caught lots of small perch and 3 crappies. Kept 20 perch and the crappies. Most of the bigger perch were 8" with the biggest at 9" and the crappie were 10". Not big fish but fun and close to home. Ill be heading out north today looking for bigger perch. Might try the Condos or Fry Cr.
