Anyone have any report on Utah Lake? I am about 15 minutes from the AF Boat Harbor and would like to get out and cathc some fish. I won't eat any fish from U-Lake but hoping to just catch some fish. Any news asap would be appreciated. If not, I may just take a quick road trip.

I usually fish the west side but last year at AF I jigged around existing holes and did decent with small chartreuse jigs for suspended crappie. Orange ice flies tipped with wax worms near the bottom closer to shore worked good for white bass. There are some perch showing up this year so let us know how many turn up in the mix.

Went out today for a few hours and fished around the pumphouse. A lot of bites but very small bites. Need a strike indicator. I landed a few but the little rascals kept taking my bait. I threw them back but all were about 8-10 inch bluegills.

The great thing is this area is literally 20 minutes from my house and I can take my 5 year old out and he will have a blast. I won't have to deal with the cold either.

That is what I'm talking about..... Being that close to the house and able to get out there and enjoy fishing is all worth it... I take my kids down here to Old Hickory every chance I get... It is only 20 minutes to the lake and we catch big Largemouth out of it....

I know. I am going to take some scouts out next Saturday. It should be fun and they should be able to catch some fish.

When you said you hit some old holes, do you mean old fishing holes ,or is the lake froze over?

It takes finesse to catch crappie right now and bluegill are biting more lightly but still providing good action. The white bass have slowed in the harbors but are biting best at dawn and dusk. I suspect they may be hanging out over open water near the mouths of harbors during the day. A spring bobber on the tip of a small, sensitive rod is good because you can vertically jig without the nuisance of a clip on float. If you are getting your bait stolen then try using just a small 32nd oz. with tiny tube, solid body jig, or maribou jig. I never use bait with jigs and I have more than my share of success. If you are fishing with small jigs then tipping them with bait can deter the bite because it adds to the size profile. The most consistent jig color on UL is chartreuse.
