I'm fairly new to this Ice fishing stuff. Bought all my stuff in the last 2 years. Sled is getting a bit heaver and so a bit harder to pull. What can i but on the bottom to make it slide easier? Wax, armor all, W-D 40, What is best??[

Best bet is to wax it. Go buy some turtle wax or if you have old candles laying around melt them and pour the wax on the bottom of your sled. Also paraffin wax works too

Get a snowmobile....

Keep the sled cold while traveling.
A warm sled will pick up snow and cause it to freeze to the bottom of the sled, causing the sled to become difficult to pull.
If the bottom is scratched and rough, sand it and then add wax to it.
I like the type that is used on cross country skies.
I tried Pam once and didn't like it. Pam stays wet and gets all over everything that it touches.

A good liberal dose of CC (about 750) will really make that sled fly.
Asside from that, I would think that your Armor-all idea would work well.

DOG SLED FOR FISHING: Now that is what I'm talking about... You guys are die hards to be able take your gear out on dog sleds to your favorite fishing hole...
ARE YOU ALL FROM ALASKA????

Got my eyes peeled for a smaller used sled,(snow mobil.) maybe next year.[

Coot,
CC? Crown & Coke!

I'm sure that will work too.[crazy]Make me forget what I'm dragg'n and how far I went. Come to think of it 750 ml is about a 16 oz. drink...[sly]

If you finally make the plunge and buy a snowmobile, don't get a small one. Buy 700cc and 1-3/4" track paddles minimum. You'll never have trouble in the slush anywhere even towing a shelter, power auger, and all your gear. Ask any seasoned icefisherman who's done this for a while. There is no substitute for cc's and big paddles on your track. Beats wax on the bottom of your ice sled any day!
PBH can say what he wants but I'll take my snowmobile and gear any day over a bucket, a long rod, and a trudge through the snow.

Thanx, I will have to save for now, used snowmobiles that i've seen start at to much $$$$$. But I'm sure I will come up with a solution as I'm pulling on the rope.[

I am not positive about it. BUT, I think cabelas has an actual track type deal that attaches to the bottom of your sled to save the sled from actually making full contact with the ground, they are runner type deals. i think they are made of a super smooth plastic(teflon???) and they are just for keeping the sled sliding well...i will see if i can find a link and post it up.....

Below is a link to cabelas... i am sure if you find some stuff at home depot you could make some of the same type of deal for your type of sled.

I put ski's on my sled made a big differance . You can buy the Teflon at USPlastics.com a lot cheaper than those runner kits . I put teflon on the bottom of my ski's so I can drag my shanty over dry ground and not hurt the ski's . Curt G.

Great idea! I might have to try that. I have some old P.O.S. downhill skis. Thanx[cool]

[#502800]Isn't there a teflon or silicon spray that you can spray on the bottom of the sled?[/#502800]

I put some old skis on the bottom of the sled. That works great [
]! pulls so easy feels like its not there. This should extend my range so I can get past the crowds. Thanx.
