Does anyone know what areas have ice free waters in Boise. I have a conference in Boise, the first part of February, and am wondering if any of the city ponds are open water. Or if any one is willing to share some good spots on the river.
Thanks!!!

I drove by Parkcenter Pond today and it just had a fringe of ice on one side but was otherwise open water. PM me if you want some info on the river.

honestly, the ice on the still waters will be hit or miss. i think you'll be most successful if you plan to fish the boise river.

Thanks, the river does seem the most probable solution. I just want have some "options" so I can be flexible. If the river is high and dirty, or if the ponds are iced over, I have somewhere else that I can try. Living on the "cold side" of the state it is hard to guess conditions in Boise.

The chance of the river being high is fairly slim - it has only been raised once since fall (at least as far as I know) since Idaho Power needed to create a little extra. There is also the Payette River in Emmett (that's about a half hour drive).
Either way - good luck!

Thanks ya all for some great information. I am just back from my conferences and I had a great time. Boise was like visiting spring! Temps were in the mid 40s to mid 50s. People were out riding their bikes. ( There is still a foot of snow at my house!)
Unfortunately I didn't get much time to actually fish, but the few hours I did get were fun. I sampled both the river and some of the ponds. I didn't catch anything of any size. Mostly all cookie cutter 11 to 15 inchers. It was just so nice to see open water and do some casting.
Thanks again!
Here is a typical trout.
Glad you had a good time. Is easy to forget how blessed we are to have the river in town. They keep it well stocked so there is always something to catch. And for the people that put the time in the river can give up some nice native browns and bows.

According to a recent story in the Idaho Statesman, Quinn's Pond is currently drained for repairs but should be filled again by spring.

Quinns wasn't drained when I was there. I saw it, but it wasn't one I fished. It wasn't even very low. The docks were gone, and they had some pumps on some rafts. So maybe they are just finishing filling it. I wonder if they have restocked it yet. I fished the river near there.
If there are no fish in there yet, that is certainly a good thing to know!!
