I'm no expert, but are you walking or riding? If walking strawberry bay at the marina or chicken creek east. If riding a wheeler, South West across strawberry bay to the small coves west of haws point. Be careful there are some hot springs over there. CCE, straight out to the mini city, most people veer right, I usually go left towards highway 40. There is a stream that comes in so make sure you go straight out for a few hundered yards before going left. If you have a snowmobile, take the road to Renegade. you will be by yourself. I would use white tube jigs tipped with chub meat or meal or wax worms. 20-25' of water seems to be the popular depth this year. (last year it was 40-45') Use a bite indicator as the bite is very light. There is also the ladder area, I have never fished there so no info on where to go, but there is parking. Maybee someone can chime in with some info for the ladders.

Do you know if you have to pay the $5.00 fee to park in the Chicken Creek lot in the winter?

No fee required.

Thanks. Is that fee just a summer thing then? Or is it only something you pay for if you're camping?

Does anybody do any winter camping around strawberry? Anyone brave enough to sleep on the ice?

Sorry, one more question - is the road plowed all the way to the Marina? I've never been to Strawberry in the winter and I'm looking to go up soon. I'm just going to be walking, pulling a sled behind me, so I'm just trying to figure out a decent place to fish.

The fee's will start again right after ice off. They do plow down to the Strawberry bay marina (first one you come to after the visitor center) later in the season and on heavy snow years it will have a layer of packed snow but my two wheel drive truck has never had a problem.
I have only fished the Ladders this year but if your going to the marina, get away from the crowds, it takes a little more walking but the snow and slush has not been bad this year.
I've had good luck straight east of the marina at the north point and toward the southwest in the bay.
