We had a heck of weekend for lake trout (pups) and one good night for burbot. The traditional techniques were working for both.

We hit lake trout in 50-70 ft of water on main channel flats and points using a variety of lures like tube jigs, minnow jigs, and jigging minnows and spoons. Most of the fish were suspended off the bottom from 5-10 ft and ranged in size from about 12-22 inches.

Burbot were a different story. We caught some bigger ones during the day while fishing for lake trout, but did really well on Saturday evening while fishing some points near Brinegar Ranch. We didn't ice the first burbot until 6PM, but the poles/tip-ups were pretty active until we left at 830PM. We totaled 18 lakers and 31 burbot that evening, and a couple of the burbs measured 28-inches (see pic). One of the burbot had a 12-inch koke in it's stomach. Everything worked but my buddy and his wife did really well just actively jigging one rod rigged with glow-n-the-dark spoons. I think all of the burbot were caught in 15-30 ft of water. The lake trout were really active just before dark in 40-50 ft.

Ice was about 5-inches. Hope it helps, Ryno
