so this is going to be an odd ball.... lets say i have a friend that is terrified of stepping on ice, but cant stand not fishing the lakes any longer and wants to ice fish. would it be terribly rediculios if said person walked out onto the ice in his/her waders with a life jacket on, and possibly dragging their float tube?

So your thinking about giving it a try[
]. Well it would not be so crazy, I have seen folks on the ice many time with life jackets but that is usually very early in the season when the ice is very thin but hey, no one would fault you if that is what it would take to get you or your friend on the ice[shocked]. Life Jacket and float tube not a big deal and some time at the end of ice fishing season the edges will melt and getting on and off the ice can get your feet wet, so waders aren't such a bad idea. One thing you need to keep in mind though, if you are fishing over deeper water and for some reason you did go through the ice, waders can fill with water and drag you down. This time of the year you are pretty safe though and once you get out on the ice and start feeling safe you will wonder why you never tried it before.

Nope, gimme a pm & I'll be glad to take you out to try the idea.

I am much the same way about ice. He will feel silly when he sees mini-ranches with snowmobiles and quads set up out there.

Zak: I won't get on you for wanting to try it, especially if you haven't ever done it. But, I did try it a few times, and even caught a bunch of fish. I still ask myself why though. I didn't really enjoy a second of it.
Imaging fishing with a little stick in a toilet bowl. If you want to move, you flush and drill another toilet hole. No casting. No drift lanes. Stuck in a little circle of ice. Ice cracking around you. Snowmobiles and quads running around you. (at least they don't throw wakes!)
Give it a try, you might like it, but don't get your hopes up. Besides, there's still open, moving water to fish, and in about 6-8 more weeks, the lakes will be opening up! Then, you can save all that money spent on augers, drills, silly little "poles," sleds, shelters, and whatever other ice fishing tools you might acquire. You can instead spend that money on real fishing! Or gas to go south to water that's open all year.
Or, you'll just end up another crazy, out there jerking a stick up and down through a little hole, freezing your waders off, just to pull a fish straight up and out of said hole. You can't be that desperate! [

Did you make it down to Lee's Ferry yet?

im thinking aout memorial day for lee's ferry depending on flows. right now im sort of limited on places to go cause of my little buddies age, so i have to stick to the bear, weber, ogden, provo, and logan rivers. when the lakes open up it wont be that big of a deal because ill be able to just have him in the boat with me, and then tent depending on if i camp or not

[cool][#0000ff]Thinkin' about makin' a run to Blue Lake (over by Wendover) around the first of February. Warm water fishing for bass, bluegill and tilapia. They hit flies good too. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]If you can hold on until then you would be welcome to join me. No tube needed. Just bring a couple of RPGs to fend off the indigenous vehicle vandals.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]In the meantime I would be happy to help you tranquilize and drag your friend out onto the ice.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]As far as wetting yourself when you think of getting on the ice...most of us hold it in and then "G - Pee - S" the best spots once we find where the fish are biting.[/#0000ff]
