Most people's initial reaction when I say that I love to catch carp on the fly is usually, "isn't that a trash fish?" or something similar to that, but once you've done it, you'll find just how addicting it is. They fight like a freight train! Here's a video I just ran across that I really enjoyed.

Nice video. That guy has them figured out. I've wanted to try it but can get any of my fishing buddies to go. I've heard a cottonwood seed imitation will work but don't think thats what he was throwing. I'd sure like to learn how to catch them so if your ever looking for someone to go PM me.

To catch a carp on a dry fly would be awesome. I have yet to do it. pretty sweet video.

Great video. I have been wanting to try this on a fly rod. Guess I will have to get out and try it this spring. I have a 9wt Orvis with a 10 weight reel I have yet to hook anything on that would be perfect for this. Now if someone could come up with a recipe to make these carp taste as good as that video looked and I'm there.

here's a fishing movie I made on my mac. It's the first one I've made so it may be lacking a bit. The first part has some carp fishing though.
Well I will put it in here when I figure out how.

Thanks Chris, I am so excited to get out and hook some more this year. I am a total Carpaholic. Plus, the dude looks like he is fishing LONG glass with the way it is bending all the way in the grip.
PRVRT, I caught several on Utah Lake with a 6 weight...and Glass at that, but on the river, because of the grass and much, I use an 8 weight. I was using 6 lb fluoro, but too many break offs so now 8 or 10 lb. Still trying to keep it interesting.
I watched this video also. This gal can catch the carp too, but she is going to snap that rod someday....
For you newbies, NEVER brace a rod like this, they are meant to flex all the way to the butt. I have seen many break by doing this. Think about a fighting butt instead, or brace the grip against your arm

I watched that same video earlier and had the same thought about how she was fighting the fish. I guess one of the best parts of catching these fish is getting carp-ultunnel from fighting them correctly. [sly]

FEEL THE CARP BURN!!!![laugh][laugh]

Just be ready to be another carpaholic like flygoddess said! It's a blast! I've fished a fly fishing carp tourny on Blackfoot res. the last 4 yrs...even won the event 3 yrs ago! I use an eight weight-I also have better luck with slightly weighted flies that I tie myself. Crayfish patterns and dragon fly nymphs seem to work best...as soon as that water is ice free and starting to warm-find a shallow bay with a creek feeding it and get ready!!!![cool] Only thing similar is catching the silvers up in Alaska!

Great videos guy!!! That is something I need to start doing, I've got video camera in my closet and don't even use it... One of the days my fishing videos might be worth some money LOL.....

It's actually Scott the fish JK lol. Yeah it's where they had the tournament last year but not the same day. I would like to do that this year. Sounds like lot's of fun. I have the same idea as you as soon as ice out I'm up there. When does it go out on average? How big of a carp won you the tournament?
Have a good one
Scott

That is one sweet mirror! I wish I could catch one that big. The biggest I've gotten was this common. I can't wait for spring! I think I might be spending more time with the carp this coming year than the trout. [blush]
Ignore that goofy guy in the picture!

i caught a mirror on ultralite spinning tackle that dwarfed that one it had to have been upper 30's i caught it about a half mile bellow the blackfoot reservoir damn still havnt found my picture of it.my grandpa has a copy of the picture i need to get it from him and scan it so i can show you guys.

There are some definite hogs in there. I shot multiple carp with my bow in the mid to upper 20's. Looking forward to getting a 30+ pounder this year. Wish i had the fly rod setup to catch a few after shooting them all day.
that's the funny thing...I won it with an 18lber !!! That yr was windy/rainy...most people only caught a couple of fish all day...I managed to get 4 but the guys in my group never landed another fish-tough yr. Two weeks before we landed around 12 each-some in the 30+ range[cool] !
here are a couple of those pics

Nice!! That picture with big carp on a nice sunny day, it's painful to look at. I can't wait. I will have to check out the site today and see it they have any of the info for next year.
