Just wondering if any one has used Berkley fireline crystal for ice fishing. I am thinking about trying it. They say it has no memory and it is very strong very thin and sensitive. What is your opinion on this?
Thanks

Yes, awesome line strength and way less memory. You have to cut it with clippers or scissors.

What pound test is best ?

6 pound seems to be the best, because that stuff is almost indestructible. I don't know if it's my favorite line, though. It's great for strength and very little recoil on bites. One con to the line is that it does have a tendency to be a little "rough" while dropping down into the hole. By rough I mean that it just doesn't slide smoothly like some mono's will, especially in the cold. Which leads me to the biggest downfall of all of those firelines and/or spider wire stuff - they collect water, and therefore get iced up easy. If you're in a tent, no problem. But if you're out on the ice and in wind and sub-freezing temps, fireline will carry H2O up into your eyelets and onto your reel. This in turn leads you to pulling the line out to get your stuff back down into the water.
One line that I recommend, hands down, for strength, ABSOLUTELY NO MEMORY, and subtleness, is Adam's Ice Black. I put it on one of my rods 2 years ago and I still have the same line on! I have caught plenty of decent trout and dozens of perch, and I am using the 5 lbs stuff. I bought it at Sportsman's down in Utah, and haven't seen it anywhere in Idaho yet. I tried to buy more this year in IF, but had to "settle" for the fireline. I promise, I'm not getting any kickback from Adam's! That stuff has just been amazing.

Please tell me more about the Adams Ice Black. Is it a braid or mono? Do you know the manufacture? I have been using Tech tan for so long I cant remember. It is no longer available so I am looking for a good replacement.

I am sending this PM thinking you may not see the post on the forum for a while. I would like to know more about the Adams Ice Black line you talked about: mono, braid, dacron----? Do you know the manufacture or any thing that would help to locate a source. I have been using Tech tan for years, purchased from Cabelas, they no longer carry it so I need a good replacement. I called Sportsman in Riverdale,UT, they knew nothing about it. Thanks for any help you can give. r2u2
