I am planning to fish Starvation for the first time this weekend.Does anyone know how the ice is and a good area to start ?

I was out there a few weeks ago and the ice was at least 8" thick. With there cold temps I would imagine the ice is even thicker and most likely plenty snow on top of it. As far as where to start is as good a guess as any. I usually try to stick to areas where I have had success in the summer and go from there.

A week ago the ice was as solid 16" on Starvation. Four wheelers and snowmobiles have been all over.

Rabbit Gulch has been popular lately. I would also try off of points in the Indian Bay area and south for perch and walleye.

starvation is hit or miss.. it can be red hot one day, and you go back the next day, in the same location, using the same stuff, the exact same way, and not catch a thing.. its the most mysterious lake in the state.. when its hot its awesome, when its not.. the berry or pelican is a short drive [:p]

One thing I have learned about Starvation in my short time fishing the lake is that the fish always seem to be biting somewhere....you just have to find them. Don't be afraid to move around and look for the active fish. One end of the lake might be the dead sea.....but the other end hot. Tougher to do through the ice but it can be done. Good luck to you!
