Well-I don't post every trip out on here...debated as wether or not to do so again but I'm tired of all of the whining[laugh]! Seems like all the posts in the last week or so (at least local SE Idaho guys) fishing has been slow

...so -after reading where NOT to go we headed out around 9am. All the way there wind was blowing around 20-30mph and drifting snow....that was actually a good thing since it usually means opposite at our destination. Sure enough-when we arrived-NO WIND. It was snowing hard but you gotta love that....it's so peaceful out on the hard deck...NO one had been out on the ice-at least since the last storm. There was 2ft of water with NO ICE around the edge...but this was under 8 inches of snow[

]. Threw a couple of logs across and slowly made my way out 2-4 ft from the edge...started the auger and there was 5 inches of ice. First-8-10 inches of snow followed by 3 inches of slush then the 5 " of clear ice. Decided to head out further and ice was between 6-8 inches. Still lots of snow and slush. My buddy caught 4 fish before I even had a chance to get all my poles out [crazy][crazy][crazy]!! I then managed to land a couple. Most came on a glow tube with piece of nightcrawler...the browns were spitting up minnows. We fished in 18 ft of water. Ended up with some nice fish and wow were they good!! See if you can tell where we were....I'll attach a few pics. Fishing really slowed around 1...started to pick up as we left..that was 4pm.

that first picture was our "live well" moved slush and snow away and had 3 inches of water!! We even managed to catch a couple of suckers (third pic)-hoping to use some sucker meat on a future trip!

I hate to follow the crowd, but I also vote for Pali

since he decided sleep was more important than a little fishing!! Don't worry Eddiefish-we'll take you again so you can watch us catch some more[laugh][laugh][laugh]

Beat like a JV GBB team Ironrod!!! Did get out tof bed the next day and fished in Ashton. Tons of new snow. had to scale the face of several ice walls to get to the river.

That many fish between two of you, my vote would have been anywhere in Idaho....Utah has limits[laugh]
[signature]
If there were two of them they could have kept two more trout . They only have 10 in the picture , plus two suckers . They could have had two more and then they would have had there limit . Great job , thats going to be some good eating . Curt G.

Well, now you're just showing off![laugh]

I guess I had the girls basketball jab coming...! Nice looking pics-but where's the fish? It's OK-many people like pictures of white fish! lol[:/][crazy][laugh]!!
[signature]
I was surprised it took so long for someone to throw in a jab about # of fish...I didn't expect you to be the first! lol!! Yea-we had them eaten before they even had a chance to thaw! I don't stock the freezer like some...if I catch some that I want to eat-keep 'em and eat 'em. If you already have some at home-take a pic and throw 'em back. -just my opinion....I grew up with the understanding that your limit was # of fish in posession-even in your freezer. Dad always told me if you want to keep fish-plan on eating them![cool]-smart man

No jab, just the truth to the Lake Powell suggestion/joke.
[signature]
im exactly the same way i wont keep fish unless i plan on eating them with in 24 hours. unless its steelhead cause i have those smoked most of the time

The Lake Powell guess was a inside joke for my good friend Ironrod, who spends more time sittin in a lawn chair on Powell than in a drift boat on the Southfork in the summer. I also believe in the wisdom on Ironrod and Chrome Junky! Catch'em eat'em. or leave em alone! I believe (and alot of research and articles will suggest the same) that more fish die even with the best catch and release methods. You shouldn't touch em, hold em for your pix ,anytime out of the water will cause stress and possible death. I don't want to start anything but throw rocks!

Listen GUYS it was a joke[laugh][laugh]
I have the up most respect for Ironrod. This was no slam at anyone!
Just a joke about UTAH limits compared to IDAHO. You can still use corn there too. Why all the hate?
PEACE

Don't mind Eddiefish...again-he's just upset that he keeps catching the "rocky mountain bone fish" when trying to find trout! Great guy-just have to learn to let him vent when he's having a bad run. I warned him about how you kicked my butt on Hank's Pond so he had better show some respect[blush][:p]!!
I haven't really noticed...do you actually ice fish or still hitting the open water? I used to be strictly fly fishing...glad I got over that one! Still my favorite but variety is the way to go

Just fly, but the rivers are fantastic right now. Got to get the moving water practice for the bugle mouths.
Thanks for the reply, have a great one Iron.
