Polo called me a couple of days ago and asked if I was up to a day of fishing. I said sure. We started about 9:00 AM from Polo's dock. Someone on the first place that we wanted to fish. So it was off into the wild blue yonder in search of.....Finally saw Norman (Labman) in CFP and we had only caught 1 drum by then. We fished with Norman and another boat close by in deep water and the only thing we did there was lose two jigs to underwater junk.

Most of the lake is stained up bad. Can I say muddy in most places? We did find some fairly clear water in the back end of HBSP, but no fish were active back there. We tried fishing the bluff. Actually we did fish the bluff. We just didn't catch any fish. Lost a couple more jigs to brush. Looks like a pattern is developing here.

Then main lake docks, creek channels, roadbeds, etc. all with no luck. We found water temps from 45 to 51 degrees. Mostly 45 though. Finally after about 5 hours of fishing and only 1 drum to show for it, we decided to go back to the spot that we wanted to fish in the first place and as luck would have it, no one was on that spot. We caught 2 nice keeper crappie, 1 bass and another drum there.

Polo wanted me to show him a place that I knew about but hadn't been there in nearly 10 years. Things sort of change in 10 years. It could just be my mind that is changing. Took us a while to finally find that small spot. No fish there and quite frankly, we didn't expect to find any there.

Then around 2:30, we decided to hit the last place on our list. Jackpot! We caught 41 crappie under one dock, but only about 10 were keeper size. Much fun to catch though after so many fruitless hours of fishing. 1/32 oz jigs with either panfish assassins or stubby butts. Crystal shad with a tail light and I fished with an albino shad stubby butt with a tail light. We caught close to the same on either lure. All fish were caught in less than 11 feet of water on a 5 count and slow but steady retrieve with the occasional "palsy" twitch.

With the cold front and nasty weather coming in that is predicted, this report probably won't do anyone any good, cause conditions are changing by the hour. Thanks, Mark, for asking me along for the day. I really enjoyed the day with you as always. I'm already looking forward to our next trip. emoBigSmile emoGeezer
