We're planning a trip to Utah in late June. Can anyone tell me if the lakes in the Uintas (Mirror, Trial, Lost, etc) will be ice free at that time? If not June, when?

Those lakes should be fine by late June. I usually get in sometime in the first half of June.

I thought the camp grounds open on the 4th of July. I know, MYSELF, unless we get hit with early hot, I would shoot more for July or LATE June.

yeah i agree with FG. i know when i used to go up there for scout camp there was still 2+ feet of snow in some areas. im stoked to hit up the uintahs this year. got my float tube already.. we should have a good old "floatilla" sometime this year, but it cant be much of a hike since FG has her toon [:p]

ABSOLUTELY...we gotta hit them often!!!!!. I like my Outlaw because of the oars if the wind kicks up, I have oars, but I have been walking 3 to 5 miles a day, so I am ready for some kicking!

I got some flies for you to drown!

with my back all messed up atm ( herniated disc L4, putting pressure on my siatic nerve down my right leg ) it will give me some time to get my legs back into kicking shape. i will go as many times as time/$$ will allow this year. awesome! i look forward to feeding some fish some nice soaked flies [Wink]

Late June is generally fine for many of the Uinta Lakes, especially the ones that you mentioned. My father (passed away at 80, 3 years back) used to always figure we could get into Mirror Lake, Grandaddy, etc by the 26th of June. I only remember 2 of the last 20 years they were still frozen then. Some of the higher country, Red Castle, Atwood basin, even Naturalist Basin will be a week or two later. This picture was taken June 28th, 2008 from Grandaddy pass, looking up into Naturalist Basin (this was an average snow year). Grandaddy Lake below, was open and great fishing that day. Mirror Lake was open the week prior. As you can see in the picture, Naturalist Basin was still a week out. Hope you have a great trip here in Utah.
