LOVE THOSE CRAPPIE! My aunt was a sergeant in the army; nurse during Vietnam War, met her husband while in the army... She is what you call an up tight person, so I call her Sergeant all the time... Well, Judy lives down the road from this Marina... Every spring around the third week of March she grabs her lawn chair and heads down to the Marina to do some crappie fishing... She doesn’t just start fishing anywhere, she has a certain spot "honey hole" that is unique in every underlying value of it... This particular spot sets 5 ft. away from this giant 70 ft fully loaded house boat that has a diving board off the back... Right behind the house boat sets a stump bed with debris, couple logs and some brush. Well, this spot holds some of the biggest crappie in the whole Marina... Once she sets down, she will dig into her old steel tackle box (the thing has to be an antique) probably was made about the same time she was in the Army... She'll reach down and grab a 1/16 oz round jig head that she makes with her two hands by pouring the lead and molding it onto the hook... After grabbing the jig head out of the box, she will place (she calls it the only grub that is good enough to be on her line, Mr. Twister grub). 2" grub she prefers, but she says smaller is better when the bite is tough... Now for her antique rod and reel, I believe it is a zebco 33 classic, probably one of the original that came out of production, but she has taken great care of it through out the years and won't use any other reel... Rod, I'm putting image on it but it has to one of the newer rods, if I can remember right she broke the old one about 5 years ago... Finally, she will throw her line into the water, but very carefully places her grub right below one of the logs sticking out of the water... As soon as that grub hits the water, her line tightens up and she has a crappie on... She'll let the fish fight her a reasonable amount of time because she says, "4lb test can break as quick as you hookem"... One day, she swore she had hooked a 3lb crappie, the fish put up one heck of a fight, the monster was about worn down, it started coming to the surface, and she gave a quick jerk. All of a sudden the fish broke her line... To this day, she still talks about the one that got away... Anyway, that one particular spot has had her name written on it for years (Judy's crappie hole) only place she will fish in the whole Marina... I guess sometimes we get stuck or set in are ways, the older we get and can't change... Hopefully, my time will never reach that point....[cool]
