I have a question? About two years ago I got a Hummunbird 757 w/dual beam transducer. I mounted it on the transom of my pontoon fihing boat and could not get the wide beam screen to show. Sent transducer back. Humminbird sent me new one. Transducer now shows wide beam and both split screen images. Problem is I can't get it to show fish. I see fish on it sometimes, but other times we will be catching fish near the boat and won't see them on the screen at all. It also advertises that you can see groups of baitfish and even see your jig. This has never happened. I am now wondering if I should just get another fihfinder, maybe Lowrance and dump this one, or try to stay with this one. I have spent days adjusting every thing I can think of and trying all sorts of combinations, just am not happy with results. Suggestions?

Remember that any finder has a transducer and it cones out as the deeper you go. I too don't see fish if they are close to the boat, but in deeper water you will see fish as well as bait balls. I see it more in salt water fishing 20ft or more. If your in 10-15ft you have to run over the fish to see them. Hummingbird makes a good finder and you do see fish now and then, so it must be working right. I take the fish symbol off and use just the arches. Once you get use to it you can tell the difference between fish and weed.

have you tried to manually adjust your sensitivty and cone size? i thought i had a POS finder till i was fooling around with it and talking to one of the UT pro's, he walked me through adjusting (electronicly on the finder) the cone and sensitivity... i was then picking up fishing hugging the bottom

You are probably right about not picking up the fish we are catching because I am on a fairly shallow lake. It is only 15' deep at it's deepest spot so the cones would not spread out too far. So I am probably seeing a small area in relation to the size of the lake. That is why I got the Wide angle quad beam so I would be seeing a bigger piece of the lake.

I have turned the sensitivity all the way up and eliminated surface clutter and still can't pick up schooling baitfish or my jig. I am wondering if the fact that the lake is stained water if that would have an affect.

I have the Humminbird 575 and can pick up a swivel on my line. A couple of things. Your 20 deg center cone is only looking at a 5.3ft circle at 15ft. Your outer cone is only looking at about a 15ft circle. Unless something is right below your boat it isn't going to show up at that depth. Also if the transducer isn't flat it can really mess with how well the finder works. Ice fishing has shown me how big of a difference having the transducer flat or almost flat does.
