Wow. I didn't see that one coming. I had been running the weather.com report for Salmon, and it seemed pretty frigid. I guess it's time to pack my bongos.

Very cool! A week to clear and it's game on! [Image: bobwink.gif]

the guy we call up there drinks coffie down at the little caffe at the north fork every morning he said it has been around 38 all week long. said he talked to a guy who had fished the lemhi hole sat and had landed 14 fish. i am very suprised it has gone out already i was thinking its usualy around the 15-25th but i could be wrong.

I actually have more memories of it going out March 1-10, but nevertheless. . . . .

either way it seems very very early. i do wonder what the water clarity is down stream though.

Watching the locals "fish" the Lemhi Hole is the ugliest thing I've ever seen that was referred to as steelhead fishing. Wild fish thrown in the rocks, drunks fighting, lovely stuff. Still there are other holes! [Image: happy.gif]

Talked to a guy yesterday who fished down below North Fork a couple days ago- said the visibility was maybe a foot. Water is pretty murky. The radio announcer in Salmon on Friday said the ice jam was a mile above North Fork?

Can anyone else verify that deadwater broke? Seems way too early.

I won't call you a liar jigs, however your source I will. Called the North Fork Store this morning and they were awful surprised by the claim. Said they hadn't sent anyone down today to check it but at that point they had yet to hear from a source there to the contrary and they have no evidence to show that it's changed yet.[Image: surprised.gif]

Here's some help. The # for the N. Fork Store. I've found them reliable on river conditions, if not the fishing.

Just got off the phone with a friend that lives in salmon. He says that the ice is just above north fork...no.......deadwater hasn't blown out yet. [:/] But with the temps up there, he seems to figure that it might be going this weekend.

ok so being from UT, and wanting to do some salmon fishing some time this year..... whats deadwater?

It's a section of the Salmon River between the North Fork and the Middle Fork. There are several islands and the river gets very wide and slow. A tremendous ice jam builds up there and backs up ice darn near to the City of Salmon. When that ice jam breaks out, it usually kicks off the spring steelhead fishing on the Salmon River.
