Fished willard last night for 4 hours or so. Nice to have the lake pretty much to yourself. It seems the low water has most of the boaters off the water. Caught quite a few wipers and channels cats. No smallies. And the north dike is out of the rocks. The water is lower than i have ever seen it. Fish started hitting top. Not really conventional wiper boils but were defintiely after the shad and pushing them to the top but not as aggresively. still a bit early for that. These are the earliest consistnet boils i have seen. They would only last about 20 seconds. And they are finicky. These type of boils are quite hard to fish and dont mean red hot fishing but a great sign for things to come soon.

What topwater lures were you using? What area on the north dike did you fish? Sounds like a good sign.

I'm going to try the boat on Willard one last time this wednesday. I'll see if we can get out of north marina without too much difficulty. Maybe we'll see the aquaman posse flotilla along the dikes!

Thanks for the update, Xman. I do like catching wipers!

Thanks for the report Xman, how far were you from the shore? Did you get any wipers over 18 inches? WH2

a handful over 18 inches. all the little guys were bunched up so i caught some on my ultra light. that is almost funner than the big guys geez what a blast.

as far as launchign a boat i can say it can be done but i do know there is a huge island thing about 40 feet off the dike thats 1.2 feet deep. then a hole around 9 feet deep. i never knew it was there before and it comes out of no where. we were standing in our tubes out in the lake.

we didnt use any topwater lures BLM. the water was too chop. but they were smacking the top. these are not the REAL boils they get into though. they are in 1 and 2sies flushing the fish. no major schools yet. so the fishing can be a bit frustrating because of the appearance of the action makes it look like they are everywhere. and i know they are not chasing lures you have to drag it right in front of their noses so alot of casts is the key. also the cats are joining in on the fun so you never know what your going to hook.

Are you saying this shallow water is on the north dike or east of the light pole? I've never seen an area that shallow on the north dike but I have in the S/E corner. WH2

north dike. and trust me its there we were standing on it. a serious prop killer if anyone gets too close to the dike. it comes out of no where. gos from almost nine feet to 1.2 feet. its like a crusted over mud flat that raises up.

In the north east corner I have hit my prop on more than one occasion. I have been out at least 100 yards from either shore with the fishfinder reading 10 feet of water when suddenly my prop hits something.

When we were camping, we took a long walk around the north side. There was a lot of "foreign objects" sticking out of the sand. Buckets, large rocks, tree stumps etc.. I would avoid the area completly. Just because ones depth finder says a few feet of water doesnt mean their arent obsticles!!!!

Hey Xman, is this the same area that Kent is talking about or is it closer to the light pole? WH2

yeah this is along ways away from the light pole wiper. i launched a tube off the far northeast corner. i consider this the north dike because its the only true north dike. where as it makes a little bend a few hundred yards down and starts heading northwest direction. so yeah this is in the far north east corner. i frequently see people up there trolling. oh a better idea for you. directly across from the old pumphouse spillway channel.
