It was a cold windy day but the creek had cleared up and I figured that I could handle the cold at least for an hour. The wind was out of a tough direction for the two hours that I fished from 3-5 but the fish were biting to a degree. I fished 1/32 oz Panfish Assassins at about a 6 count but I don't know how many bites I had as the bow in the line was so bad that the only indication of a strike was the line being too tight as I reeled up the slack from a pause. I saw many times when the line moved and I figured it was a strike but never hooked a fish when I set the hook. I may have just been bouncing off the bottom with the line being pulled along by the wind when I saw line movement. I never saw one take where the good ones were biting. I fished for about an hour in the prime area where I have been catching the good ones picking one up every once in a while. When they quit I went to a nearby dock to see if the fish were there and they were but they were small. Luckily there it was out of the wind and the bite was easier to see. I went to another dock and caught one but the bite there was really slow. I finished going back to the prime spot and caught one more good one. All in all I ended up with 10 fish including 7 slabs, in the 11.5 to 13 inch range. Freida and I were getting too cold and we came in. The water temp was in the low 40s and the air temp was falling ending up at 38 with a wind chill right at 30 degrees. I'm surprised we lasted that long. It was nice to get out and fish for a while as I hadn't been for 4 days while working. I would expect that with the rain that the water will muddy up again and the fishing will be tough for a few days back here. I am looking forward to warmer, less windy days.
