Holy crap, my head is spinning! After some crazy events, HB 80 is back and SB 267 (formerly known as HB 80) has been tabled for now.

I'm not even going to try and explain all of this. I was up at the capitol for some of the happenings and I still don't get it. The games that go on are mind boggling. What I know, and what is important is that HB 80 is back on and we are fighting for our rights in the House again, not the Senate (yet).

The next bit of news is the reports I am hearing is HB 290, sponsored by Rep Curt Webb has been WITHDRAWN. My only guess is the group fighting for the farm bureau interests did not want two bills on their side competing against each other, and they picked McKiff's bill to run with.

So there are now two competing bills coming from the House. One good, one very bad.

HB 141 Kay McKiff: http://le.utah.gov/~2010/bills/hbillint/hb0141.pdf

HB 80 will be going to the House Judiciary Committee. HB 141 will be going to the House Natural Resources Committee. Thanks to the speaker of the house, HB 80 should be able to have a fair shake in committee and onward to an open and fair debate on the House floor.

I will post in reply's later emails for each committee to support HB 80 and to oppose HB 141. Also, anyone who wants to go and spend a couple hours seeing how all this works by going and talking to representatives at the capitol, we could sure use you! I hope to be there every Monday. Some people are there every day. Any time you can give for emails, phone calls, or personal visits to the capitol (usually 10-12 in the morning) I personally thank you for your sacrifices.

We can get this done guys. HB 80 is a good bill. It went through a public process. We have NEVER tried to hide the ball from anyone and let anyone who wanted be a part of the process. This bill is a compromise that strengthens protections for property owners, while balancing the right of the public to the easement recognized in Conatser by our Supreme Court.
