Well, HB 80 is scheduled to be in front of the House Judiciary Committee at 2 PM on Friday. I plan to be there, can anyone else make it? We need bodies there ready to support the cause!
We also need to contact each of the members of the committee and ask them to 1- support HB 80 as it is a good bill. 2- Even if they don't support HB 80, the work that was put in by Rep Fowlke deserves to have this pushed through to the House floor for a full debate.
Here are some hitting points to hit the committee up with.
-It was an open and fair process
-It strengthens protections for landowners by defining the easement clearly, limits liability for landowners, increases trespassing penalties, and requires the public to be educated on the easement if they are going to use it.
-It benefits the public by defining the easement clearly recognized by the Supreme Court, allows for portage around man-made obstructions in streams
-It also clearly recognizes two competing rights and fairly balances those rights
Here is the list. Please take a few minutes and ask this committee to put this through to the House floor for a full and fair debate. You probably don't have to contact Rep Fowlke to ask her to support her own bill. But you could contact her and thank her for her work. She truly has been great in this process with what she's done. Let them hear from us guys and gals!
